Book Description

November 16, 2009 0073370665 978-0073370668 10th
Reflecting your students and their world. How many of the students in your Social Psychology course are Psychology majors? Business? Sociology? Education? In the 10th edition of Social Psychology, David Myers once again weaves an inviting and compelling narrative that speaks to ALL of your students regardless of background or intended major. Through examples and applications as well as marginal quotations from across the breadth of the liberal arts and sciences, Myers draws students into the field of social psychology.

At the same time, Myers is also in tune with the ever-changing state of social psychology research. Boasting over 650 new citations in the 10th edition, Social Psychology is as current as it is captivating. Research Close-Up and Inside Story features throughout the book provide deeper exposure to key research and researchers. Marginal quotations, examples and applications throughout each chapter, and the concluding "Applying Social Psychology" chapters all ensure that regardless of your students' interests and future plans, Social Psychology will engage them. This 10th edition also features the contributions of Jean Twenge, author of Generation Me and The Narcissism Epidemic, further bolstering the direct connection to today's students.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Review About the Actual Content January 1, 2011
Format:Hardcover
Hard to believe that after all these years people still don't understand that Amazon reviews are for the product, not the shipping. Well I will review the book.

I needed it for a Social Psychology introductory class. The book is very thorough and makes it easy to apply social psychology findings in my own life. One of the best chapters is the one on relationships. Some of the things I learned there will help more than any self-help book to date. Another good thing about this book is the large amount of research that it cites. I had a good time using the index to find cited articles and looking them up for myself, eventually ending up learning so much more.

As for Social Psychology the discipline, I think this book does a really good job showing why the field is important and what contributions it has made. I went in not really knowing how useful social psychology could be, and by the end I had a real appreciation for the field. Even though at this point I could sell the book to Amazon for over $72 (which is more than I paid from a discount place), I have decided to keep it.

I have been using Kindle for my textbook for years. I have even recommended that people buy a Kindle for their textbooks. Now Kindle has decided that it would be a good idea to format their text book just like the actual book and make it only assessable from a computer or iPad. THIS IDEA SUCKS!

I BOUGHT A KINDLE, I WANT TO USE MY KINDLE AND I WANT TEXT TO SPEECH, ESPECIALLY ON A TEXT BOOK!

THE BOOK IS BASICALLY A SCANNED IN VERSION OF THE TEXT, IT LOOKS GREAT BUT I HAVE TO PAN ALL OVER THE PAGE TO READ THE TEXT. I LIKE NORMAL KINDLE TEXT CHOICES MCH BETTER.

THE SIZE OF THE FILE IS SO CUMBERSOME THAT KINDLE CANNOT HANDLE IT WELL. ON AVERAGE, THE KINDLE PROGRAM FAILS ON ME 3-10 TIMES DURING A SINGLE READING. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN A PROBLEM BEFORE THESE NEW AND IMPROVED BOOKS.

I do not recommend using these books. Buy a hardbound copy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Boring and not an easy read April 7, 2012
By Maple
Format:Hardcover
This a required college textbook for my Social Psychology class. Compared to other psychology textbooks, I find this hard to read and follow, and unbelievably boring. The author makes the fascinating and interesting topic of social psychology completely dull and boring. The writing is awkward, sometimes unclear, and incomprehensible. Sometimes I have to reread a sentence a few times to understand what it means, and sometimes, I still won't understand what it means. The studies and examples given in the textbook are briefly discussed and not very detailed, thus, making them not very memorable. Plus, many studies are given as examples, which can be overwhelming. It would have been better if only a few studies that are discussed in detail were given, instead of having many short brief explanations of studies. I know there are other social psychology books out there that are probably a lot more interesting and easier to read than this one. I find psychology to be very interesting, but I can't help but fall asleep when I read this book.

This is a great, thorough, introductory sort of psychology book. It hits all the classic concepts in a colorfully written, not at all boring way like some college textbooks.
