While I think some of the students who could benefit from this book might find it a bit patronizing and beneath their level of maturity and intelligence (since it depends on pictures so much), there are some really valuable insights to be found for just about everyone with any degree of Asperger's Syndrome. The only improvement I would suggest is that more details on body language reading and face reading be included. For example, when Dr. Baker says to check first whether a potential friend looks receptive, exactly what should one look for in the facial expression and body posture? Dr. Baker gives some details on these things, but I think some Asperger's students might need more specific pointers.

Although I haven't purchased this book, I have read a copy that I have borrowed from a library, and I think that it is very helpful.

As someone with Asperger's Syndrome myself, I know that if there had been books like this 30 years ago, I would have learned much earlier in life what things are appropriate to do and say in what situation. It's too bad that there were no books like this until very recent years!

I have used this book with my students as a middle school speech pathologist. The pictures are a great resource for the students to visualize the right and wrong way to behave. They enjoy correcting the wrong pictures as part of therapy. An added bonus it that another book of Jed Baker's has worksheets and lessons that directly teach the social skills in the pictures. Truly a great resource for anyone who teaches social skills.

This book was recommended to me by a fellow educator. I was skeptical that my High School students would be interested in it, after all, it is a picture book. To my surprise, my high schoolers with autism loved it. It gave us a great medium through which to discuss social skills and it is a format that really works for them. It is not childish or cheesy at all. It includes a variety of social skill issues and topics---it kept us busy for most of the school year. My students with learning disabilities were not as interested in the book itself, but I was able to use the step-by-step descriptions to work on social skills in other ways.

The Social Skills Picture Book for High School and Beyond by Jed Baker is an excellent tool for adolescents who are on the autistic spectrum. The photographs coupled with the dialogue present in a multisensory manner strategies that can be learned and practiced for everyday situations in school and at work. This is a good supplement for direct teaching and modeling offered in the school setting.

The book is in excellent condition, was packaged properly and shipped promptly.

Some of the pictures don't accurately show the body language like I would expect them too. Also, pictures are duplicated in the book for various body languages. Would be nice to have different pictures so as not to confuse the student. But I do think it will be helpful for my daughter to use along with her counselor.

I teach a period of students with various disabilities (learning, emotional, behaviorial, autism/aspergers) and this book catches their attention with very relevant lessons they need. It is actually a middle school group and I prefer this book to the elementary level one. The students enjoy the real life pictures and like to take turns reading. The lessons lead to productive discussions on how the students will use these skills in their classes and lives. The lessons that aren't relevant to my particular students I just skip, and sometimes it applies to only one student so I sit with the student one-on-one or have my aide do that. This is a very good lesson book for when you have a substitute or for your instructional aides to use with students as it is very straightforward, easy and uncomplicated to use, and students generally enjoy it. All my aides and aubstitutes have commented positively on these lessons, and it is a definite plus to have happy subs and aides!

This book is a wonderful resource for parents and support staff working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Despite its title, it is also excellent for use with middle school students. As a clinical psychologist working with children and adolescents on the autism spectrum, I am recommending this book to all of the teams, along with the original Social Skills Picture Book for the younger children.

Practical, fun and engaging for High Schoolers. A great companion for the rest of Dr. Baker's books. Social skills presented in an accessible and useful way.

The pictures and clear explanations in this book were great for teaching social skills to my student. The high school focus addressed very relevant topics in an easy to understand way.
