5.0 out of 5 stars Great for autism
I work with children with autism so I'm a big fan of these books. I find they're applicable for all my kids and losing gracefully is something that's really difficult for the majority of my students. 1.0 out of 5 stars I could not understand it
I could not understand why this series is selling for $9.95. Paper and print quality is very poor and content is nothing special. Pretty mediocre product.

My wife wanted me to order this whole series but thankfully I ordered only (to see the quality and worthiness). Now she also thinks that it is not worth spending $9.95.

I think these books...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for autism, March 24, 2010

I work with children with autism so I'm a big fan of these books. I find they're applicable for all my kids and losing gracefully is something that's really difficult for the majority of my students. I really like how the pictures focus on the issue at hand. There is no distracting backgrounds. The content presents the topic such as "losing" in a variety of different situations and coping skills for each situation. I find this really helps my students understand what "losing" means and what they can do. I would think that most special educators will really like this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars thumbs up, September 15, 2009
This review is from: Social Story - Playing with a Friend and Winning & Losing (Now I Get it! Social Stories) (Paperback)
I'm a special ed teacher. I bought this book for my class but ended up keeping it at home, and getting another for my class. These books are great for any kids, not just kids in special education. I'm really pleased I found this series. I love the way it's done. It's simple, the illustrations are eye catching, the content is just what a kid needs and my kids tend to believe the book more than me - go figure!

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I bought it, February 17, 2010
This review is from: Social Story - Playing with a Friend and Winning & Losing (Now I Get it! Social Stories) (Paperback)
I almost didn't buy this book after reading some of the reviews here but since my child with autism really struggles with winning and losing, I figured "What the heck, I'll try anything." I'm glad I bought it. It's actually been a big help to my son. We've seen a lot less tantrums and when he gets upset, we read the book together and it calms him down. I think if he didn't have autism I probably wouldn't be able to see the value in this book, but if your child has autism or pdd, these social story books really help. I bought some others too and they're working really well for us.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, February 16, 2011
This review is from: Social Story - Playing with a Friend and Winning & Losing (Now I Get it! Social Stories) (Paperback)
My Son LOVES these books he reads them again and again and again (By far an improvement over that horrible purple dinosaur books. This is a group of books that you can read to the child or the child can read by himself (If he can) it teaches in an easy to understand and not aversive way very important life and social skills, the illustrations are great as well.

I received one of the books in this series as a gift so I came to Amazon to buy some more. I was really pleased with this book. But there again I'm a speech & language pathologist and work with children with autism. I now have a few and am planning to get more of them. I'm always making social stories and I love that these are already done for me. Besides I could never compete on these illustrations:-) And I love the questions at the end of each story. Definitely a good buy if you work with kids on the spectrum.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like it, November 6, 2009
This review is from: Social Story - Playing with a Friend and Winning & Losing (Now I Get it! Social Stories) (Paperback)
I think this book is really good for children on the autism spectrum. Kids on the spectrum lack social skills and often don't know how to cope with losing. It's probably not a good buy for typical kids but if you're a teacher or your child has an autism spectrum disorder, I think you'll be pleased.

I think these books will be soon selling for $1 in dollar stores and walmart.

My 2 cents.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not recommend, November 4, 2009

This review is from: Social Story - Playing with a Friend and Winning & Losing (Now I Get it! Social Stories) (Paperback)
I would not recommend this book to anyone. I'm surprised it got so many good reviews. The stories were poorly written (with actual typos) and extremely repetitive. I expected more than approximately 15 pages for an almost $10 price tag. It is definitely not worth the money.
