Book Description

October 2000
During the last 30 years, internationally renowned communications firm Saatchi & Saatchi has produced some of the world's best advertising on social issues. Their highly creative, often controversial public awareness campaigns address child abuse, road safety, sexually transmitted diseases, war, racism, drugs, torture, contraception, censorship, and the environment.

Social Work presents a complete retrospective of the best of Saatchi & Saatchi's cause-related advertising in print and broadcast media. More than 100 advertisements-many of them award-winning-are collected in this colorful, eye-opening volume. Included here are such early campaigns as Flies on Food (food safety) and Scrub Your Lungs (smoking) to the more recent Brains (racism), as well as the hugely provocative Raped as a 3-Year-Old poster, which turned heads in London's Underground stations with its straightforward message against sexual abuse, and The Only Fur I'm Not Ashamed to Wear, whose in-your-face image of a naked model caused a furor in Italy.

Designed not only to shock but to provoke discussion, these advertisements tackle important issues that affect people everywhere. Fueled by the creative insight and cutting-edge sensibility that has made Saatchi & Saatchi one of the world's premiere ad agencies, these bold, witty, uplifting and poignant campaigns create a map of social history as they powerfully remind us of advertising's capacity to inform and transform the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Perspective, October 24, 2001

Fascinating. Honest. Insightful. Inspiring. It's a celebration of great ideas and great causes in equal measures. And the power of the ideas removes any scepticism of the intent of the message.

I was really disappointed in the quality of pictures although the examples were great. It could be better!
