This is the Socialization Trap. Most home educators are ensnared in it because they simply don't realize that conventional wisdom pertaining to socialization is wrong. Age peer social groups are not helpful but harmful to children. The natural and Biblical pattern of family-based, age-integrated social development is the great need of the home education movement today. It is not in the artificial, pressure-cooker atmosphere of the school that normal social learning is done, but in the home, the church, the community, the workplace. As moms and dads learn not to thrust their children out into the unguided, random social circle of age peer grouping but rather take them by the hand and lead them through the real world, they help them to escape the Trap and become healthy, capable social beings.
The material in this book is based on my understanding of Scriptural principles, the research of social scientists and our own family's experience in home education. In addition, the experience of numbers of other home teaching families has contributed to our understanding of the subject and it is for them and others like them this book was written. May it and they be used to glorify our God.

An excellent response to the "socialization" question,

I was so glad to find a book that clearly and Biblically explains how home education provides the healthiest socialization environment for children. I think it is a MUST read for anyone considering homeschooling or anyone who is currently homeschooling. The author is a homeschool father of twelve who provides the reader with rich ammunition to respond to what is now the standard objection of the world to homeschooling. He details the common myths of socialization and how it is the age segregated institutionalized school, not the family school, that is a socialization nightmare. He also warns homeschoolers not to fall back into a socialization trap by mimicing the world's age segregated social scenarios. I loved this book.

This book is good for homeschooling parents. It is not written by a super-duper man with many degrees, but by a father who truly believes in what he and his wife are doing in homeschooling their children. He points out many benefits to doing a homeschool program based on a Biblcal point of view. He points out many of the false beliefs that exist in sending children to public school.
