My profession is marketing consulting with a focuses on social media, online marketing and user experience design. As a result, I read a lot of books on social and marketing. Most of them, I have found, tend to be very generalized with a lot of rehashed info. Overall, you read one, you've read them all.

Socialize to Monetize is different. This is a time intensive book. If you want to know what is happening right now, in regards to using social media for marketing and monetizing your online efforts, get this book. Do it now and dont waste time.

Social media is a constantly changing creature. Things change in an instant. Platforms come and go. Attention spans are getting shorter and shorter. Being successful with social is about knowing what is effective now and acting on it, and the author does an excellent job of focusing on these key action points. I like the fact that she doesn't waste time with high level theory or waxing poetic on social media group hugs that most social books focus on. Just facts, metrics, stats, bullet points and actionable info.

My only con about the book was that the cover doesn't do it justice, which is the only reason I am giving 4 instead of 5 points. When i first saw it, I'll confess that I thought it might just be some rehashed, private label rights re pop. The Twitter bird threw me a little and seemed to come off as a little dated.

Surprisingly, I was happily proven wrong. In reality this is a powerhouse of useful info and definitely worth it. I even learned a thing or two, and I thought I knew everything.

This book is a must have for any (small) business looking to monetize via social media. In my opinion, it's everything you need to know in order to do that. Gabriela's stats and demographics are excellent, making it clear which social media platforms would be best to put your focus in order to get the best return on your efforts.

It is an excellent resource if you're looking to engage a community across multiple social media platforms whether you're just starting out, or you've been engaged in social media for a while.

I very much appreciate that there are actionable things to do right now that will improve any platform. Clear and simple. She uses graphics, points out placement, and offers the why's and how's in order to optimize the platform. Whether you want to sell, promote, or educate a community, there are more resources in this book than you'll be able to get to (well, that's my projection!), and even if you do a small percentage of improvement, you'll come out way ahead.

An excellent investment.

One has to only look at the way major corporations like Petco, Macy's, HP, and many others drive traffic to their products through social networking to realize that if you are not doing it for your business, then you are losing money. The best part of this is that Gabriela Taylor shows you how to do this social marketing, basically for free - not counting your sweat equity.

This book has two strategies, I believe. The first is to introduce each of the many social networking sites and educate the reader thoroughly about their benefits showing third party applications that expand their abilities. The second is how to create a strategy that combines several of these networks to multiply their effects.

Gabriela suggests that you create a profile on all the major social networks and use third party applications like tweetdeck.com, hootsuite.com, or seesmic.com to link them all together and post to your networks from a single dashboard. Work smart and even a one person company can compete with the big boys! I really liked the part of the book where she described the third party applications to help you make your Facebook pages better. Imagine using NetworkBlogs to post your latest blog post to your Facebook timeline or" Fan of the Week' to single out one of your Facebook fans every week!

Whether you are just a beginner and never have heard of StumbleUpon, Flickr, or Viadeo plus many other social networking sites or you are an old pro that just needs to refine some of your techniques, "Socialize To Monetize: Engaging Your Online Communities Across Multiple Social Media Platforms" is a must read!

Socialize to monetize provides some of the best, on-target advice I have read about how to leverage social networks to market products and services. As a small business entrepreneur, I have struggled with getting the word out about my consulting business. Ms. Taylor's book has opened my eyes to the possibilities and I am excited to try some new strategies with social marketing. I think that I have intuitively felt that these sites, such as Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, and others had the potential to help my fledgling business, but I was pretty clueless as to how to go about it. Thanks to Ms. Taylor's readable book and concise step-by-step explanations, I think I now have the vision, plan, and motivation to succeed. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to get some great ideas to take their business to the next level.

I'll admit it - I'm one of those late 20-somethings that doesn't like the newer social media sites. My generation was the first to have Facebook in our college years, and Myspace before that. But past that... things like Twitter and LinkedIn... I've never touched them. Always seemed like a lot of nonsense, and pointless nonsense at that. And for social reasons, I'm still sticking to my guns - I will most likely never have a Twitter for my friends and family. But this book has proven to me how important it is to use these social media sites as tools to branch out in a business way. And as long as it's just for business, and I have this book handy s a reference, I think I'd be ok with it.

I'll also be the first to admit that, while I heavily use Facebook for personal communication, I've not been brave enough yet to use it in a promotional sense. I've seen tons of other people use it that way, but I couldn't get myself ton research it or branch out. Even one of my best friends has been using it for promotion - she just published her first book, and has set up an author page. She's been generating a lot of traffic through there, and gotten a lot of people interested in her book. Even then I couldn't get myself to be interested... til I read the hard facts about it in this book.

The numbers presented here are really too staggering to ignore. And I had no idea until reading this that Facebook has as many features as it does. It really is designed with businesses in mind, I'm sure of that now. I' just surprised that it took me this long to find out! And I really, really found out - Gabriela takes every facet of Facebook and shows you how to use it to promote yourself and/or your business. And Instagram? I had no idea Facebook owned Instagram now!
