5.0 out of 5 stars A great new ambient techno album, but I think it's ONLY for ambient techno fans, December 29, 2005
This review is from: Socially Inept (Audio CD)
This album contains a LOT of interesting and fun electronica songs that'll make it worth your while, even if there aren't many "highlights". Every song here is just very good, and it's consistently appealing and interesting. It's obviously pretty hard to describe the electronic bits, but I'm pretty sure that genre fans will love it. The reason I'd give this "5" stars is because it has 14 tracks and ALL of them are fantastic - the only problem is that I think it's ONLY for electronic fans. Unfortunately amazon.com doesn't seem to sell it, but you can get it at cdbaby.com for about $12.00. Rock fans might not like it but electronica fans will definitely. Highly recommended if you can find it at a reasonable price! If you like this album I definitely recommend Lusine's "Serial Hodgepodge" which also came out this year.

Highlights include:
"I Don't Know How To Tell"
"Little_A"
"Out Of Phase"
"Davironment"
"Socially Inept"

5.0 out of 5 stars Proem - Socially Inept, March 4, 2011
This review is from: Socially Inept (Audio CD)
Simple beauty, simply done well. Proem's SOCIALLY INEPT starts off with the haunting "I Don't Know How to Tell," merging crispy beats over a melody that grows in clarity. "Invisible for All" has a iciness that chills even as the digital percussion skitters its way through. The initial harshness of "Pinching Point" gives way to funky electronics, and "Place Gun to Head" has a stately, eerie grace. The processed vocals on "When Frailty Fails" add a melancholy texture, and "Da.Vironment" accelerates the tempo somewhat. "Carpark Kittens" sets the beats a-thumpin' and ends on a strangely psychotic note, while "Deep Like an Airplane Failure" introduces a gentle guitar line to accompany the clicking beneath. And the title track, closing out the album, veers into symphonic grandeur.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album blew me away, October 4, 2009
By
This review is from: Socially Inept (Audio CD)
I have come to this album quite a few years after its release but it has really blown me away. I'm a big fan of Autechre's early releases (esp. Amber) and this was reccommended to me based on that. I would classify most of it as fairly ambient IDM, and you can definitly hear the influences of early Autechre in there, but there seems to be more going on here. There is a raw emotion in some tracks (notably 'Place Gun to Head' and 'When Frailty Frails') that you don't often find in a lot of other IDM. There are also the crunching beats and glitches that are common in music of this type which make some tracks more techno than ambient. Overall, I can't praise this effort by Proem enough and I thoroughly encourage fans of ambient, electronica, and IDM to check it out. Stand out tracks IMO:

Invisible For All
Place Gun to Head
When Frailty Fails
Deep Like Airline Failure
No Im.back.
