Dainty heads of lilac-pink flowers on stalks rising above blue-gray, grass-like foliage having thin white margins. New growth has a pink tinge coloring in early Spring. Brushing against this plant gives a garlic-like fragrance. Evergreen. Full-sun. Vigorous growing into clumps 1 foot wide, foliage to 1 foot tall, flower stalks to 2 feet. Hardy in zones 7 -11. In cooler regions the Society Garlic may be brought inside in the winter as a house plant.
Culinary value: Mild taste of garlic with a warm after taste. Add to dishes during the last few minutes of cooking for the best flavor. The plant gets it's name, Society Garlic, because you can eat the garlic and not be afraid to go into "society" with garlic breath as you would with traditional garlic!
