Editorial Reviews

Review

'... like companion volumes in the Cambridge Applied Linguistics series, it is readable without over-simplifying detailed arguments ... One of the aspects I particularly like in this book is the frequent and explicit references to learners and their teachers in specific situations. This ensures accessibility of the information to both the academic and to the classroom teacher, for whom much of the information will be of great use.' VATME Newsletter No 71, 1997

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written and nicely organized book, March 20, 2009
By
This review is from: Sociolinguistics and Language Teaching (Cambridge Applied Linguistics) (Paperback)
This was the required text for a TESOL (ESL) sociolinguistics course. The readings were clear and helpful in making content understandable. In addition to citing academic research, there are also real-world examples and suggestions that make the content immediately beneficial/usable for the classroom teacher. Overall, a great collection of academic chapters on the topic of sociolinguistics.
