Editorial Reviews

Review

' ... this volume stands as an authoritative and unified text on the various fields of sociolinguistics of sign languages.' Journal of Sociolinguistics

'SSL is a good introductory textbook on the topic of sociolinguistics with regard to sign languages ... in conjunction with in-class lectures, supplementary readings, and further research, students can develop a good foundation of knowledge in this subject area ... it fills a definite gap in the current resource materials available for the teaching of deaf-related issues.' 4.0 out of 5 stars Informative, Concise, Usefull, March 12, 2011

This review is from: The Sociolinguistics of Sign Languages (Hardcover)
I wrote an essay about Deaf culture and the Sociolinguistics of Sign Language. Some basic searching on the internet lead me to this book. It contained all the information that I was looking for and then some. It outlined perfectly the points that I was trying to make in my paper, and helped me understand Deaf culture on a much deeper level.

My only complaint is that it's expensive. I wasn't able to afford buying the book online, however, I was able to borrow it from a local University Library.

Great book, big price tag.
