I am currently using this textbook to teach introductory sociology. I was required to use this textbook by my current department. My main problem with this book is that it is a data dump. Macionis packs far too much information into each chapter. For example, students taking intro do not need to know 8 theories of deviance, or how to recognize a spurious correlation. I find that I have to specify which sections of every chapter the students should focus on. Lost is the fun and excitement about learning about the social world. Honestly, if I were a student, this textbook would kill any interest I had in sociology. I try to supplement it with a reader, but the chapters are so dense that students don't have time to do the supplementary reading. I just wish I could switch to another book!

An Excellent book, I learned so much about the world around us and why people do what they do. It really makes you take a closer look at yourself. Love it, everyone should read this.

I am amazed at how "friendly" this textbook is. Dr. Macionis' writing style is very readable and interesting.His stories keep me engaged and the text prompts help the information "stick."

i was required to buy this book for my sociology class, and it turned out to be an interesting read. it is a textbook, but its not quite as boring as a normal textbook. it has a fairly unique layout, with some interesting design choices, which makes it a bit more fun to read. it is easy to read, and covers a lot of different aspects of sociology. i don't know if i would buy this if it wasn't for class, but you definitely won't be disappointed with it as a textbook!! also, i bought it used, and its in great condition!

Just another college book that one must have to complete a degree. At least it has some nice extra content and the chapter summaries help a good bit.

This book is up to date, easy to read and actually very interesting for college required reading material. I actually took it with me on a road trip for casual reading. Great for opening the mind to bigger ideas.

Up to date and expanded work chronicling the dominant sociological theories. Very good intro book.Only knock is the chapter on "economics and work" where doesn't really consider other methods of business organization beyond socialism and capitalism.

This was a really good book and in a REALLY good condition!
The material covered in it was just as good as the "new" edition.

This was a great purchase because it was in good condition and he selling price was not expensive at all. I m glad I was able to get this book without speding a furtune. I didn't have to wait long for it to arrive.
