I thought this was ingenious because it really taps into an organization that students are familiar with, and applies organization concepts to McDonalds. I think this chapter will really hold students attention. If the author wanted to contrast organizational structure from one country to the next, Japan is always a good country to use when discussing organizations and bureaucracy because of the emphasis that Japanese work culture places on teamwork."

About the Author
Joan Ferrante (PhD, University of Cincinnati) is Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Sociology Program at Northern Kentucky University, where she has won two university-wide teaching awards. She created and supports a Study Abroad Scholarship for her Introduction to Sociology students at Northern Kentucky University called "Beyond the Classroom." She is also involved with outreach and public engagement, in particular the Mayerson Student Philanthropy Project, a foundation that supports courses that challenge students to collaborate with each other and with community leaders to identify unmet community needs.
