Debut full length from Oakland, California artist--Influenced by the Phil Spector girl-group sound
and a minimalist post-punk/pop ethos. Green moves from the extremes of soft & simplistic
synthesizer pop to an all-out punky roar, where seriously crunchy rock guitars stomp all over the
girl-group pop vocals. Drum machines, purposely primitive amateurism and occasional off-key
female vocals lay a garage rock styled foundation for rumbling guitar chords to put a rough edge
on the pop melodies. Includes a cover of a Queers song and contributions from members of
Seapony & Charming Snakes. Similarities to Bleached, Frankie Rose/Vivian Girls, Helen Love,
Ramones-Ronettes-Runaways. It's not the kind of album that's going to change your life, but it
will brighten it up for a bit.

This is not a great or groundbreaking album, but it is a very enjoyable listen. It's probably cycled through 50 times in my car over the past couple weeks. I play it loud, I play it very soft as background sound. It works either way. Not a dud track on it. Tracks 3-5 are the real standouts for me. Good stuff.

Stumbled upon Ms. Green searching last.fm similar artists to Best Coast.

Similar yes, but not alike.
The songs on 'Sock It To Me' frequently eclipse the 3min. mark even reaching 5minutes on one track.
I disagree with the popularity ratings for songs. Number One, the last track is at zero, it's a great song.
Simply put 'Sock It To Me' isn't life changing. It's refreshing and honest, Ms. Green knows what she is and she's cool with it.
Fun and Poppy 'Only One' sits atop a set of songs about Boys, Life, Love and Heavy S***.
Listen to the samples 'fore you buy, not every song has "it".
That said I just added 'Close To You' and the title track to my library. She really grew on me quick.
If you're on the fence listen to 'Time in the World' and watch the vid for 'Taxi Driver'

Recommend if you do like.

Colleen Green's "Sock It To Me" full-length is proof that cool Lo-Fi Pop music still exists. Drum machine; deadpan, and at times, muted vocals; minimalist guitar strumming; cool synths abound. There's a Queers cover ("Number One"), a memorable instant Pop "hit" ("Time In The World"), a slow/bass driven cut ("Sock It To Me"), a throwback-style, catchy "Girl Group" number ("Every Boy Wants A Normal Girl"), as well as other D.I.Y.-style tunes ("Taxi Driver," "You're So Cool," etc.). The standout track is "Close To You," which is the album's longest song; it follows atmospheric synths, a hint of percussion, drum machine, and expressive vocal work alongside a hypnotic, repetitive bass guitar. Stylistically, this track is in a category all its own; it provides a nice break from the shorter, pop-ier songs on this album. Colleen Green is so skilled at creating her own thumb print on various genres of music (Lo-Fi Pop, Girl Group vibe, Pop/Punk covers, et al.) Overall, a MUST HAVE in your record collection. *Also, check out Green's previous releases ("Green One + 3," "Cujo," "Milo Goes To Compton"), which are similar in style.
