5.0 out of 5 stars perfect lullaby book!, March 11, 2004

The rhythm of this delightful book has the most hypnotic affect on my 2 year old! Like Good Night Moon (only better illustrations) this book has that wonderful lulling-them-to-sleep feeling, leaving the child in that safe, loved place that helps them fall asleep easily afterwards. Now my daughter asks for this book every night, and I'm happy to read it to her. We've even got a made-up tune to go with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars fun rhymes with excellent imagery, September 15, 2005
This clever rhyming book stretches the imagination to consider things like "a pocket for an ice cream is a cone",and gives kids a fun way to learn a love for poetry. My kids love this book and we donate it to their classrooms each year so that their classmates can enjoy it as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of Our Favorite Books, July 31, 2008
At last, a children's book that adults will enjoy as much as kids! Beautiful illustrations and amusing story. Celebration of diversity, too.

I give copies to all of my friends for baby showers, new baby gifts and Birthdays. A true "must have" for the bedtime storybook collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our 20-month old and 3-year old love this book, January 1, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered the book for our kids after getting a positive review from a friend. When it arrived, I didn't have the highest expectations and wondered how our kids would respond. They have LOVED it and my 20-month old will often go pick it out from the bookshelf when we're reading books. I'm a little surprised, but it's probably his favorite book right now. Highly recommended for toddlers.

5.0 out of 5 stars a touching children's book with precious illustrations, July 7, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I checked this book out from the library and instantly fell in love with it. My son who was 2 1/2 at the time asked for it nightly; I had trouble returning it to the library even after renewing it twice! After checking it out 2 more times, I decided I should buy a copy to keep and am so glad I did. We return to it monthly. The loving, whimsical use of the "pocket" examples are priceless, and the author's rhyming and rhythmic abilities create a nice flow. The illustrations truly make the book one you will grow to love each time you share it with your child.

4.0 out of 5 stars beautiful pictures, March 2, 2010

fun idea. just picked this up at the library today. the pictures are gorgeous. I like how the pictures show a story (the people in the different places meet up, separate, come back together) and the different things that are pockets. we just read it once but I'm sure we'll come back to it again and again. the only thing that was a little distracting was random sentences stuck in that don't go along with they rhyme. my son is 28 months and enjoyed it though.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE BOOKS THAT ENCOURAGE "OUTSIDE THE BOX" THINKING!, February 9, 2009
Although this book is several years old, I just found it today and fell in love. As a literacy consultant, I always look for rhythmic, imaginative books and this one fits the bill. See how many "pockets" you and your child can find in your world that aren't named in the book! This book is especially appropriate for preschool children or children in K or 1st grade where a focus on and exposure to the rhythms and patterns of the language is extra important.

4.0 out of 5 stars Random and whimsical, September 18, 2008
Wow, what an absolutely random book! And yet the captivating rhymes are so charming and whimsical, as well are the illustrations, that I could not help but be sucked into this little explanation of various kinds of pockets. Extremely imaginative.
