4.0 out of 5 stars Watch out! No eSata on this board.
I happen to use eSata external drives quite a bit. Amazon's comparison chart indicates that this board has an eSata port in the back. IT DOES NOT. This is not the end of the world but for a board of this caliber, I didn't even think for a minute it wouldn't have eSata. Even the older P6T had it. But thank goodness it still has a PS2 connection for my 12-year-old Dell...

1.0 out of 5 stars MB Died after 1.5 months
The motherboard just died after 1.5 months. Amazon help was pretty much useless because the MB died after 30 days and they do not want to replace it. Trying to solve this problem with ASUS.

But thank goodness it still has a PS2 connection for my 12-year-old Dell keyboard from back when I was in college! Just kidding...seriously Asus, in your newest version you got rid of IDE, floppy connections and eSata but you hold on to a PS2 connection?? Who actually makes these decisions? All in all an excellent motherboard. I really can't understand why anyone would need a second LAN port and pay a 70-dollar premium for the "premium" version of this product. So for most builders this is an awesome product for a very reasonable price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great motherboard, July 12, 2010

Asus makes great motherboards and this new P6X58D-E follows suit. It is the little brother of the P6X58D Premium but all you get with the premium is an extra LAN port and Asus Express Gate which is an OS embedded into the BIOS. I think those are the only differences...

Things I like:
USB 3.0
SATA III
Integrated 7.1 Audio
Looks great

Things I don't like:
I would've liked a few more SATA ports, there are 8 but most cases have rooms for 10 drives.

Overall this is a great board. It was between this and one from Gigabyte. Both are great

I really like this motherboard. My first experience with the ASUS bios, took 5 minutes to overclock it to a modest 3.3 GHz with an I7 930 which is stable with the default VCore 1.2v. Construction and layout is outstanding. Look forward to clocking it higher. Included disk had links to online drivers and useful software like latest chipset drivers, Intel Matrix Storage manager. No complaints, this is a great board.

I looked at different mother boards for over two months and finally concluded that this was the most bang for the buck (full machine configuration below). You can get higher end gaming boards but if what you want is a good solid board that will serve your computing needs well into the future I do not think you can do better. I wanted to build a machine that would serve my needs for several years. This board has the features that will allow it to handle any software task I can envision throwing at it. One of the features that attracted me to this board the most is the availability of USB 3, even though I do not have any USB 3 devices yet it is nice to know that when I do get them I will not have to add a card. I did put in four USB connectors on the front of the machine and my case has two more at the top (see my review of the case separately). Having three PCIe slots is also helps make this board futureproof and allows for easy configuration of CrossFireX video setup. The board runs cool thanks to well designed heat-sinks and thanks to the Cooler Master hyper 212 fan. The board has an onboard power switch and other features you usually only find on higher end boards. The program for configuring the board will give an over clocker all the control they need, but in my case the Motherboard found all the hardware on the first boot up and set all the parameters to what appears to be optimal. I have Windows 7, Adobe Acrobat, and Office on a 60 GB SSD and the machine screams. Even with Norton sifting through everything, boot-up takes less than 30 seconds. The lack of an on board External SATA is not a problem with the CM 690 II case as it has an external SATA on the top that connects to one of the onboard SATA ports.

Nevertheless, the board has a few minor flaws. It handles 6 GB of memory easily but higher configurations can be tricky. Make sure you see the ASUS website describing the board before you buy your memory to assure that the configuration is supported. The memory chart is good but it is a bit dated, the configuration you want may not be on there. Another drawback is the fact that the 8-pin power connecter is quite a distance from 24 pin connector. This will only be a problem if you install your power supply in the bottom of the case as I did. Stretching the power cable around was a bit tricky and it had to go across the memory slots. The board is a bit flimsy, it would be nice if it was a little stiffer. The bezel included to cover the ports at the back of the board just plane did not fit. I had to leave it off the machine. There is a very curious piece of metal that sticks out from the PS2 mouse port. I suppose it is a retainer of some sort but it looks as though something was bent during fabrication. It was not, you can see it sticking out on the picture of the board above; the manual has no indication of what it is for or what you do with it. Without the bezel on the machine it is not a problem. Here is my complete configuration. Put together a machine like this one and you will benefit from a great deal of hard comparative shopping on my part.

I have endured the P6X58D Premium and found it not equal or exceed the P6X58D-E. This motherboard does everthing they say it is capiable to do and then some. The 6.0 GB/sec works without any problems, the USB 3.0 is lightning fast and hasn't any issues. I've been running both boards and all in all my choice is the P6X58D-E hamds down. If your looking for a rock solid board with a good company to back it up the ASUS P6X58D-E is the one to purchase.

I ordered this board to build my first system. After hours of trying to figure out why the system would not start, I finally called ASUS for help. After a short call, it was determined that the error checks could not get past the CPU (Intel Core i7 930). I went on line to Amazon, and easily submitted my request for a replacement. To my surprise, the new board arrived the next day via Fed Ex and I was able to continue my system. I rated the board 4 stars because the product didn't work out of the box.

This review is from: ASUS Socket 1366/Intel X58/SATA3&USB3.0/A&GbE/ATX Motherboard P6X58D-E (Personal Computers)
I am pleased with the Asus P6X58D-E. I put together my PC about a month ago and the build went smoothly. The motherboard posted the first time and loaded Windows 7 without any problems. The motherboard layout is good featuring SATA connectors on the side of the motherboard. The 24-pin and 8-pin CPU connectors are also well placed, so cable management is pretty simple with this board. The bios has all the options I need. I conservatively overclocked my Core i7 950 and the temperatures for the CPU and motherboard are great.

The only thing that gave me some problem was the I/O Shield, but that might be more caused by my case (Cooler Master Storm Scout).

The rest of my PC for reference for those considering this motherboard:

Core i7 950
Cooler Master Hyper 212+
Asus P6X58D-E
Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 (6GB)
Corsair TX750
G Skill Phoenix Pro 120GB SSD
Samsung Spinpoint 1TB HDD
HIS Radeon HD 6870
Samsung SH-S223F DVD Drive
Cooler Master Storm Scout

This review is from: ASUS Socket 1366/Intel X58/SATA3&USB3.0/A&GbE/ATX Motherboard P6X58D-E (Personal Computers)
This is the first time I assembled my own system. I selected the components after an ungodly amount of review searching but I am quite happy with the end results. I also spent a bunch of hours searching and studying about over clocking and disk optimization. I am over clocking the system continually at a conservative 3.8GHz with CPU temp at 37 degrees C and the fans are still in silent mode. I built this system to get ready to upgrade to Pro Tools 9 from M-Powered 8. With M-Powered 8 I can now run a ridiculous number of plugins. My new system rocks!

I can recommend the following components, all from Amazon. They all play very well together (no Pro Tools issues):

-ASUS LGA 1366 - Intel X58 - True USB 3.0 & SATA 6Gb/s - ATX Motherboard P6X58D-E
-Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz 8M L3 Cache LGA1366 Desktop Processor

-Cooler Master RR-B10-212P-G1 Hyper 212 Plus 775/1156/1366/AMD/AM2/AM3 Universal Direct Contact Heat-Pipe 120mm Fan CPU Cooler

Very happy with this motherboard. Documentation was decent. PC came right up. I have not had lockups despite running 6 2GB sticks of DDR3 at 1600mhz (this is not an officially supported configuration by Intel). Plenty of goodies on the board such as USB3 which I'm sure will be handy at some point. Running Gentoo Linux on it, no issues getting things like sound to work. Good stuff from ASUS as always.
