As funny as finding blood on your toilet paper., February 16, 2006
This review is from: Soda Pop/I've Got You Babe, Pt. 1 (Audio CD)
Now that the British public have cottoned on to the fact that Leigh Francis AKA Avid Merrion has only one joke (which stretched for an excruciating THREE series), he's making his way over to America to try out his joke on you lucky lot. That was a while ago though, and still nothing. Hmmm.
Anyway, as well as performing his one joke for three series, he also released TWO Christmas singles. The first one was packed with desperate celebrities wanting to appear a) to appear to have a sense of humour, to be "in on the joke" and b) to appear on ANYTHING, AS LONG AS ITS TELEVISION. It was rubbish, of course, but we didn't think he would try the novelty single trick twice (that's why it's a novelty, surely?)
But oh, he did. And THIS was the result, a beyond awful cover of I've Got You Babe recorded with Patsy Kensit, who will basically felate horses if it meant getting on TV, and Davina McCall, the most charmless woman on television. Who also hosts Big Brother - fancy that?
It's one thing to play tricks on celebrities, as Avid Merrion used to before his joke became famous. But when those same celebrities start appearing on the show, in on the gag, that's when it stops being funny and starts being a little sickening.
You're all very welcome to him. Enjoy the joke.
