We got a Sodastream Fizz for a gift. The mechanical parts of it worked properly, but the Fizz meter didn't turn on. The back "door" was also poorly fitted and came off easily. After looking closer at the unit, it seems that it might have been a return, perhaps related to the many online reports of bad Fizz chips. I took the Fizz unit off, and there was a watch battery powering the unit. The battery in place was 2032. I didn't have that, just a thinner 2025. Same voltage, same diameter, slightly thinner. Put in the alternate battery as a lark, and voila, the Fizz meter powered up. My guess is that a bad batch of batteries was installed at the factory, or the batteries got drained during shipment.

We purchased the "Fizz" Model because of the idea of knowing how much carbonation was in the drink when you are filling it up. When we got it home from the store the display showed the co2 level but not the carbonation in the drink. I called soda stream and they promptly sent me another one in the mail. After I recieved it I put it into the machine (following their directions to properly reset the meter) and it still didn't work. I took the machine back to the store and exchanged it thinking it was a bad machine. When the new one did the same thing I called SS again and they sent me another meter and promised to have it tested before it left the warehouse. Needless to say that one didn't work and they decided to send me yet another one after I called to complain again. No surprise that one didn't work either. Did they even test these before marketing this machine????? So at this point I had gone through 2 different machines and 5 different fizz chips. I returned this machine and told them I wanted to test a new one before I left the store, with a manager's help, in case I was messing up the whole time. Guess what that didn't work either. I opted to get a cheaper model since I had just been using it without the meter really working anyway. I would not recommend this model and would go with the cheaper ones. Otherwise we love the product and the soda.

While carbonating the water, the Fizz Feels better quality than Jet model. Feels sturdier and smoother functioning. The better quality feel coupled with the fact that the LED indicator didn't work doesn't justify double the price so I returned it. I'm using the Jet now (on average 10 times a day for sparkling water). I was going to get another Fizz for my cabin until I read the other reviews about the broken LED indicators.

Sodastream: I wish you guys would make a variety of glass water bottles. I'd like to take my glass bottle with me but it doesn't fit in any drink holders.

BTW: Sigg bottle brushes are great/long enough to clean the sodastream bottles. If the plastic bottle gets an odor, using food grade peroxide and water disinfects and deodorizes them.

I love my SodaStream and have recommended this product to 5 other close family members, that also say they LOVE LOVE LOVE it! If you are looking to have the EXACT soda flavor as labeled on package then of course you could be disappointed, so you need to keep an open mind the flavors are kind close not perfect. Even though the Cola flavors have a bit more RC taste it's still ok since in our house cola is cola and we are not picky. The orange and lemon/lime flavors are right on and tend to go the fastest for us. I personally don't use any flavor at all, just plain water. The bubbles are intense and if you follow the "three buzz" rule you'll have a perfect liter every time, fizz chip or not. I never even noticed I had a fizz indicator until I read some of the other reviews here, mine works fine, just don't need it. I do like the Co2 indicator though tells us when we are close to out and to trade in our spare tanks. We also don't use filtered water, as our city water tastes fine without it. We've saved tons of money not buying liters of flavored water and soda from grocery, let alone the space we are saving in our landfills. I will recommend this product to everyone! Take Care.

I am not going to review the machine here as there are tons of reviews about it. I will just address the cost effectiveness of it if you were led into believing you would be saving money as those demonstrators at Costco try to lead you into believing.

Here is a simple break down if you are considering one based on cost feasiblity. You have to think two liters because that is what people normally purchase and not one liter here to compare, because the Sodastream standard serving bottle is one liter in size. I will base my calculations on Sodastreams claimed servings per Co2 bottle and syrup flavorings. I will use the cola here as it is the most common. Syrup costs start at about $4.99 on up. Servings may vary depending on your tastes obviously.

A 60L Co2 will make 60 liters, or "30 two liter bottles"
Cost of Co2 is $15.00 / 30 = .50 per two liter.

Carbonated water flavoring will make 12 liters or "6 two liters"
Cost of flavoring is $3.33 / 6 = .56 per two liter.

Cola syrup will make 12 liters or "6 two liter bottles"
Cost of syrup is $4.99 / 6 = .83 per two liter.

So if you use the Sodastream mainly for plain soda water it will cost .50 per two liter which is worth it, as two liter soda water costs about $1.00 on sale.

If you like your Soda water flavored then it will cost more than plain soda water from the Sodastream, as it will cost $1.06 per two liter. You can buy flavored soda water for $1.00 per two liter on sale.

For Soda or pop it will cost $1.33. Name brands sell for around $1.25 on sale or less. Generic store brands sell for about a $1.00 or so and will still be cheaper than the Sodastream.
