The Diet Fountain Mist just doesn't taste like Diet Mountain Dew.

We are saving so much time, energy and money by using the Soda Stream instead of buying cans and bottles of sodas from the store.

We have a Sodastream Fountain Jet Soda Maker Starter Kit and picked up a bunch of the flavor syrups to try out. Here are my opinions:

Caffeine Free Orange - **** (4/5 Stars) Good flavor, my son likes this one the best
Caffeine Free Root Beer - *** (3/5 Stars) Just OK, not our favorite
Cola - ** (2/5 Stars) Not very good at all, looking for an alternative
Diet Cola - *** (3/5 Stars) it is OK, for diet
Cranberry Raspberry - ***** (5/5 Stars) Great tasting, my daughter and my wife both love this one
Diet Ginger Ale - **** (4/5 Stars) Good flavor
Diet Lemon Lime - ***** (5/5 Stars) Great tasting
Dr. Pete - ***** (5/5 Stars) Great tasting
Energy Drink - ***** (5/5 Stars) Great tasting, good energy boost as well
Ginger Ale - **** (4/5 Stars) Good flavor

These syrups are generally good and the ability to make small amounts of our favorite flavors at home is a real luxury!

Recommended, with exception of the disappointing "Cola" flavor.

My husband and I got a SodaStream system for Christmas and we love it! We did the calculations for the cost of the CO2 and the syrups and it doesn't save us much money (if any) on canned drinks, but it saves us a TON of space and drastically reduces our waste.

Anyway, my husband is an avid Mountain Dew (MD) drinker and he really likes the Fountain Mist (FM). He says it doesn't taste exactly like Mountain Dew, but it's close enough. So instead of drinking a few cans while he's playing games, he just whips up a liter of this and he's set, and our tiny apartment doesn't fill up with empty cans. We also like FM because it's reduced calorie. It's sweetened with sugar and Splenda, so an 8oz serving of FM is only 35 calories, while 8oz of MD is 110 calories. So a whole liter of FM has about 150 calories, whereas a liter of MD has about 460 calories.

I agree with reviewers here and elsewhere that say the SodaStream syrups can taste a little too much like artificial sweetener, especially the diet drinks, but I've found that it's just because SodaStream recommends using more syrup than you need. I usually use about half the amount recommended and it's a lot better.

Soda Stream is awesome. Love it, and this flavour is great. Very much like Coke Zero. Here's the deal though. The mix on Amazon is WAY over priced, and I can't figure out why? You can get these same flavours in the same size for betweeen $5.00-$7.00 at any Bed Bath and Beyond store. Amazon and vendors want between $9-$14. I don't get it. Just go to the store and pick them up, or order them online at bed bath and beyond. ITs a shame as I buy everything from Amazon and would love to bundle my reorders of this stuff, but not for that type of markup.

I purchased the SodaStream carbonator to replace the bottled Diet Coke that I drink daily. The carbonator came with twelve soda syrup samples and I immediately tried the Diet Cola. While it tasted like cola, the sweetener that they use leaves a terrible aftertaste. I immediately ordered a two-and-a-half gallon "bag in a box" case of real Diet Coke syrup. I will have to transfer the contents to one-gallon jugs, but the effort will be worth it.

The SodaStream unit really does carbonate the water well and just the carbonated water was very refreshing by itself. I will be purchasing name-brand diet root beer, diet orange and diet cream soda syrups.

I think that the major soda makers should package their own flavors so SodaStream users can really put their machines to good use.

This does not taste like Diet Mt Dew, so if that's what you want, you won't get it here. I was a serious (SERIOUS) Diet Dew fan, but committed to Sodastream for the less space and less waste, etc. I added just a tiny amount of Diet Lemon Lime to this and drank it steadily for a good week. It has replaced Dew successfully as my new drink of choice! Now the "real" stuff tastes funny, and I have a new addiction.

I use the soda stream a lot since my original purchase 3 months ago. Syrup is just too expensive on Amazon. I can buy the same product at bed bath and beyond for 4.99.
My biggest complaint is with the soda stream co2 canister. If you buy the unit from costco or sams club, you get a 130L co2 canister. No one carries that canister so if you're going to do an exchange, you have to exchange it for the 60L canister. Why would I want to do that?
In addition, soda stream uses a proprietary fill hardware so that you cannot go to a local "air" store and refill the canister yourself. There are aftermarket adapters to overcome this, but they are quite expensive.
If I had to do it again, i would not buy the sodastream unit at all

Not a very good tasting syrup. Too strong, really. Too much sweetness. I was comparing this to A&W Cream Soda in my taste-bud memory. Not as good, would not recommend.

This stuff would be pretty good if it wasn't for the artificial sweetener. I'm not sure why they insist on putting sucralose into a product labeled as non-diet, especially after touting that it contains real cane sugar. It does, in fact, contain real sugar. But the advantage is negated by the unmistakable aftertaste caused by the sucralose.

I think they're trying to keep the calorie count down by creating a "half diet" drink. But I don't like diet drinks. I've never had one that didn't have some sort of weird taste or aftertaste. I don't drink a lot of colas either, but I like to treat myself to one every now and then. So, when I do drink one, I want one with real sugar, no HFCS, and no artificial sweeteners. I used to seek out Mexican Coke for this, and I was hoping to get a similar product with the Sodastream.

I think a lot of people are attracted to the Sodastream by the prospect of getting a purer product. They're going to be disappointed by the presence of artificial sweeteners in these syrups. It's not a big deal to me because I mostly use the Sodastream to make plain seltzer, but I'm sure their syrups would sell better if they would get rid of the sucralose.
