Sodom have always been an enigma for me. Being an American fan, I have never seen them live nor seen any video/film/moving pictures of them of any kind, until now. All I ever had were their albums, which until recently, were very tough to come by.This DVD is great. A lot of the 'mystery' is solved. The only tough part is that the 3 hour documentary is entirely in German (with subtitles), so its a bit tough to sit through. (Some of the subtitles flash by very quickly so you'll wear out your 'back' button on the DVD remote.) But, overall, you get the story: Living through the 80's and the early thrash metal scene, Tom 'Angelripper' Such rising from a mine worker to playing music in front of tens of thousands of fans, the revolving door and cast of characters of ex members giving their insight into this landmark metal band.... The concert disc is top notch. Great sound, great camera work, great performance... We await Part 2. And we await the promise that Sodom will finally do a major tour of the USA!

Sodom is back with their first ever double DVD titled "Lords of Depravity: Part 1"! After releasing their much successful M-16 album back in 2001, fans around the world have been hungry for some new Sodom material to hit the streets. Now just in time right before Sodom's release of their next studio masterpiece, currently due later this year, we get this monster of a DVD! Tom Angelripper (bass, vocals) have put blood, sweat and tears to compile the enormous amount of material for the DVD, and this is only just part 1!The first disc of the package contains over 3 hours of documentary material spanning Sodom's career from 1982 up to 1995. After having seen it, I am still amazed just how much detailed it is. Pretty much all the previous members of the band are back to tell their side of the story. You will see now just interviews with previous Sodom members but also rare live and on the road footage from the 80's and 90's with many rare never-before-seen photos and the impact Sodom had on the thrash scene not just in Germany but also around the world. Second disc of the package contains over 2 hours of live material with the present Sodom line-up. A lot of Sodom classics captured during the band's return to Bulgaria as well as from the biggest metal festivals in Germany. Tracklist: INTRO AMONG THE WEIRDCONG (MIXCLIP) VICE OF KILLING (SOFIA) OUTBREAK OF EVIL (SOFIA) MASQUERADE IN BLOOD (SOFIA) ON TOUR WORLDWIDE THE SAW IS THE LAW (MIXCLIP) REMEMBER THE FALLEN (WFF) DIE STUMME URSEL (WFF) M 16 (ROCKHARD) PRESS WORLDWIDE NAPALM IN THE MORNING (MIXCLIP) NUCLEAR WINTER (SOFIA) TOMBSTONE (SOFIA) SODOMIZED (SOFIA) EAT ME (SOFIA) SODOM WORLDWIDE CODE RED INCL. INTRO (WACKEN) ABER BITTE MIT SAHNE (WACKEN) WACHTURM (WACKEN) AGENT ORANGE (WACKEN) FANS WORLDWIDE SODOMY AND LUST (SOFIA) WITCHING METAL (SOFIA) BACKSTAGE (SOFIA) AUSGEBOMBT (SOFIA) ACE OF SPADES (SOFIA) BACKSTAGE (SOFIA) STALINHAGEL (MIXCLIP) OUTRO This is a mandatory pick up not just for the Sodom fans but for all the fans of the thrash genre. You will definitely not be dissapointed with this DVD! Pick this up now and get ready to be Sodomized!!!

This is a surprisingly good video. I have been a fan of Sodom for a long time and of much of the old school German metal scene. I did not know what to expect of the performance, as I have never seen Sodom (I live in the US) and I did not know what to expect in terms of production quality as often these can be obviously low-budget affairs. Not this one. Great performance, and informative history.Even the videos at the end are really entertaining and refreshingly artful and even funny. Definitely a cut way way above most DVDs aimed at the metal market. I highly recommend it.

Being a bit younger for the time being this was actually my first exposure to Sodom which caused me and a friend to go out and get as many Sodom albums as possible (there's a TON and they're still putting them out regularly). Overall I must say first, Sodom are kind of a hidden rare treasure in the original oldschool of 80s thrash metal bands. Unlike Metallica, Slayer, Destruction, Kreator, name your old band, Sodom never broke up (despite a bazillion lineup changes) or altered their sound once to cater to any trends in hopes of a few bones n props from the "professional" music industry. I will also add seeing Slayer at the Grammy awards saying they're no longer underground, releasing countless forgettable songs trendy to mall metal stylings is so painfully pathetic, it really makes you hate the way the lure of fame and money or the need to be immortalized in mainstream music history can destroy an amazing bands original artistic vision and integrity down to the core, Slayer are now a novelty item. Saying that, Sodom have never played anything other than Sodom and if you don't believe that give this DVD set a look, they are one of the very few survivors of the 80s and while not as popular worldwide as other bands they still to this day play Sodom metal, Witching Metal, intense fast and heavy. A band that stayed true from day one, tasted success here and there, had small victories with massive shows but never let it go to their head, I cannot say there is one Sodom album that is lousy, seriously, can you say that for any metal band with over 20 years of albums?Disc one is a surprisingly dense 3 hour documentary that chronicles the early days to 1995 with brutal thoroughness. Every step of the way from the first two demos onward is told in detail with any notable event of a year given its due. There's plenty of funny stories but its exhausting to watch! I have to say cheers to makers of this, sidestepping sparse storytelling for the full story was a true show of dedication to Sodom fans and if you're new to the band as I was when I first saw this you'll go away feeling pretty good and pumped up to either get a bunch of Sodom CDs or start your own band or both. Disc two is live footage from 2001, I personally would have wished they put some older concerts from the very old days on here but this mismash of shows forming a long setlist is satisfying visual and sonic wise. A thrash metal explosion, just, hell, Sodom! Forget Slayer, seriously, they sold their souls for Buffy The Vampire Slayer.... urhg.. yeah. Also I can imagine part 2 if it ever happens continuing where this left off, they've done alot since then! Pick this up if you like brutal to the point thrash metal, this DVD set is long and exhausting and worth every penny, one of the most satisfying buys I've had in awhile. |
