Right now I am buying a second one for my mother-in-law!

I do wish the auto-shut-off feature had a bit more delay; once in a while it shuts off with a measurement I still needed.
Hallawe
It looks nice (I have no issues leaving it out on the counter) and is easy to use.

This is an outstanding kitchen scale that combines beautiful form with ideal functionality. The scale exhibits good accuracy and linearity over the complete 5000 x 1g range. I can tare large vessels, i.e. Kitchen Aid mixing bowl, and add large amounts of ingredients, i.e. 700 g of flour to make pizza dough. And, its attractive design fits nicely into my kitchen. The glass top can be easily removed for cleaning and the glass/silver/black colors combined with the architecture of the scale give a great Euro look! Mostly, however, I like the fact that it does just what it is supposed to do without a lot of annoying extra buttons that some other scales have in a vain attempt to add extra value. Right now I am buying a second one for my mother-in-law!

This scale has a maximum capacity of 9 pounds, 15 ounces (or 5,000 grams), & accuracy to .05 ounces (or 1 gram), per the sticker on the scale. I tested its accuracy with two different sets of Ohaus brass weights (made in New Jersey); both sets of weights gave identical results. At weights of 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 16, & 24 ounces, the scale was completely accurate if I perfectly centered the weight on the glass platform. If the weight was not exactly centered, I would sometimes get a weight reading that was off by .05 ounces (the scale always gave a too low reading in those cases). At lower weights (1 ounce, 0.5 ounce, & 0.25 ounce), the scale was always off by .05 ounce (again, it always gave a too low reading). This wouldn't seem to be a big deal, unless you're using it as a postal scale, in which case there's a small chance you could owe postage due & have a letter returned to you. Most kitchen scales are not accurate to anywhere near this degree, & I only bring it up because Soehnle's claim is that the scale is accurate to ".05 oz."

The box says that the scale is made in "P.R.C" & an attached sticker says "Made in China," but designed in Germany.

When you set up the scale, note that the directions are given as illustrations, & that the second illustration indicates that you must open the battery cover, pull out the red piece of plastic, & replace the cover, before the scale will operate.

Two, three-volt CR2032 batteries (the flat, button type) are included. It comes with a 5 year warranty, which is stated in enough different languages to make the United Nations proud.

Overall, this is an excellent value for the price, if you're looking for a small, attractive kitchen scale that is more accurate than you'll probably need.

I love this scale. If you want to do huge amounts of cooking, it may not be right for you because it only measures up to 11 pounds. For me, though, it is perfect. The rimless surface makes it easy to put larger containers on the scale to measure larger quantities of food. It can tare any measuring containers easily and easily measures in metric and English. I use it frequently and do not have to worry about wearing it out or constantly calibrating it because it is digital. I also like the sleek design, it looks good sitting on my counter. I do wish the auto-shut-off feature had a bit more delay; once in a while it shuts off with a measurement I still needed.

We purchased the Soehnle to replace an aging scale we moved to our vacation home. This unit works great; the extra capacity is nice and the numbers are easy to read even when we place a big bowl on it. I'd like the powersaving option to wait another 30 seconds or so, but I can certainly deal with it.

Pros:
- Accurate scale, 1 gram intervals
- Decimal readouts for both ounces and grams
- Removable top plate
- Small footprint on counter
- Easy to tare
- Elegant design (well at least I like it)

Cons:
- Wish it had memory functions for taring
- Large bowls can make readout hard to see

I was looking for a scale to measure my 2 year old's food intake for medicinal reasons. Since I use this at every meal, I needed something that was accurate yet small so it wouldn't take up limited counter space. My final decision was between this scale and OXO Good Grips 1157100 5-Pound Food Scale with Pull-Out Display. They both seemed to have a small footprint, though now I think this one might have the edge in that category. However the OXO doesn't have a removable top plate for cleaning and it also only reads out ounces in 1/8 oz increments even though it can measure in 1 gram increments just like this scale can. Those to factors tipped me toward this Soehnle 65105. The OXO also looks a lot more utilitarian than this Soehnle. The 11 pound max is also a nice feature.

I do see how the pull out display on the OXO would be nice since large bowls can block the display, but 99% of the time I am weigh kid dishes. I wish that the scale had a memory function with taring so that it would retain a tare weight until I reset it. As it is, it resets to zero whenever you turn it on after it auto powers off.

I bought my scale in December, 2010. It stopped working on July 24, 2011. The same thing that happened to Karin Brown (see 1 star review) happened to me. I tried replacing the batteries, but that isn't the problem. Currently, if I press the on/off bar very hard and/or several times in succession, I can get it to turn on, but the on/off switch is obviously defective. I would be willing to "play" with the mechanism, but it's encased in plastic with no possible access.

I have used Soehnle scales for years and I loved this model for the kitchen for the 7 months it worked. I was going to give it another try because I've had such good luck with the brand in the past. Unfortunately, the price has increased by 50% - a bit steep for a product that doesn't work for more than 7 months.
