5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Scale
I love this scale. It is very accurate and does not require an expensive battery. The large bowl has a pour spout and clean up is very easy. I love the flip and store feature. It creates a compact package and there is no need to store the bowl and base separately.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible scale
I purchased this scale based on the good reviews of other and the low price. I could never get the scale to weigh food with a consistant weight. I would weigh the exact same item two and three times and never get the same weight. And, the variance was not just small...sometimes up to 5ozs. I even had my husband try the scale to make sure it wasn't just me. He had the...

I love this scale. It is very accurate and does not require an expensive battery. The large bowl has a pour spout and clean up is very easy. I love the flip and store feature. It creates a compact package and there is no need to store the bowl and base separately.

The scale has an interesting but simple way to zero out before use. Just turn until the dial reads zero and you are set to weigh liquids or dry ingredients in any bowl (dish or pan) that fits on the base. In addition to the bowl that comes with the scale, I have used my Tupperware bowls on the base without problems.

It is a great little scale and a great value. Unlike the digital scales, this analog scale will cost you nothing after purchase as there are no expensive batteries to buy. I'm sold!

4.0 out of 5 stars 6 years of wear & tear, July 13, 2005
This review is from: Soehnle Culina Analog Food Scale (Kitchen)
I purchased this scale 6 years ago when I was living in Germany & it is only now that the calibration has started to falter on me & I find myself looking for a new set of scales. I agree with the previous reviewer - forget the digital scales - this beauty is simplicity itself, reasonably priced & has stood up to the test of time with regular ongoing use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Elegant but simple, July 3, 2006

This is a great scale. You can use any pot, plate on it and zero adjust. The nice thing is if it calls for two ingredients, put the first ingredient in as required by noting the weight, then zero adjust and then put in the second ingredient. No need to calculate. The bowl is dishwasher safe and the scale is easily wiped clean. Great products donot have to have a battery, computer and be a gadget. Wonderful mechanical product but as accurate as any digital scale.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect..., July 14, 2006

It's simple, it's cheap, and it works. I'd give it 5 stars, but it would have to be perfect and I think there could be a couple improvements. For example, the zeroing of the scale seems a little cheap, but then we're not measuring gold or subatomic particles.

If you're looking for a nice, cheap, and functional scale that doesn't require batteries...I'd recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Sturdy Entry, November 5, 2008
This review is from: Soehnle Culina Analog Food Scale (Kitchen)
PRO: This is a simple, no-battery item that has served me MANY YEARS (20 years plus!) Nothing like consistency! Generally my experience has been very good. When I bought it 20 yrs ago I'd have rated it 5 STAR, but there are many more options now.

PRO: The dial is pretty large and easy to read.. it is a dual metric- english scale so you can read either.

PRO: The bowl has a rubber-like ring inserted in the bottom which makes it "Stick" where you put it and not slide around.. this is handy. It also is spacious.. holds about a half gallon ( 2 l.)

PRO: A mechanical "zero set" slider allows you to "add on" ingredients easily, measuring each as you add. This also lets you "zero out" any container you use ..as long as you don't exceed the weight limit of the scale :)

General: The scale has always been adequate for what I need.

It is accurate as far as I can tell, but since it is an analog scale, it only reads "close to" for ounces, etc.. I'd say reading 1/4 oz. (10g. or so) would be pushing it beyond its intent. The scale is roughly 1-11 lb. in a space of about 6 inches. (5.5 kg over 15 cm)

I rate it as fairly easy to clean, but it is a mechanical assembly. The bowl keeps the base parts pretty clean since I don't place any items directly on the surface.

CON: The bowl is not even mildly heat resistent. I have a wide stove and had it on the stove away from the burners. However the bowl softened and distorted on the side toward the hot burners. It is still usable but doesn't properly fit as a dust cover anymore

CON: The "zero-set" which is a simple sliding dial doesn't move smoothly but "binds" making accurate adjustment more difficult than it should be

CON: The rubber-like ring on the bowl hardens with age and becomes hard and brittle.. Mine turned yellow, cracked, and fell out of the bowl

This is quite large compared to the new sleek electronic scales and takes up a fair amount of space. The bowl is probably bigger than 99% of measuring chores require, so could be more compact.

In spite of my "negatives" I am considering ordering another to replace my old one... deciding whether to "go electonic" and fool with batteries and reliability issues *YUK*

4.0 out of 5 stars Diet Scale, June 21, 2008

Easy to use scale for calculating calories during a diet. It is easier to use a salad plate or saucer on the scale rather than the bowl provided. Just place the plate on the scale and zero it out. Do not use a plate that is too large, because you will not be able to read the scale.
