This scale does a great job, and it's small, so it's easy to store when it's not in use. The reviewer below who gave it one star is confused about the model--this model does meet the specs exactly. She/he is comparing this model to a previous model, which did have a slightly larger capacity, but it was also physically larger and less attractive. And face it, this is a kitchen scale, so how often do you need to weigh items that weigh over 10 pounds? If I buy a large turkey or roast, I buy it by weight, so I know before I bring it home how much it weighs. This scale is not meant for such large jobs. It does the job it was intended for perfectly.
(Edit 12/2008: I didn't pay anything close to $90 for this scale, the current price on Amazon. On Jan. 14th of 2008, I paid $34.95. At $90, this scale is WAY overpriced. It is commonly available for between $25 and $35--just do a little searching).

How can you not love a kitchen tool that is both gorgeous and hugely helpful and functional? I can't live without a kitchen scale, especially for baking. This one measures things to fractions that most scales don't, and the glass plate set well above the read-out means that it's easy to read those fractions, even when your ingredients are in a fairly large bowl, something that was a problem with my last scale. The read-out comes on quickly, zeroes quickly after putting a bowl or whatever on it, and switches easily from pounds/ounces to metric. The glass plate is securely held, but comes out for cleaning.
This used to be a luxury item but is now really affordable, and since a good kitchen scale is a must for anyone who wants his or her recipes to turn out right, there's no reason not to get this one. My old scale is now my back-up and stored in a closet. It works, but not with this level of precision and readability, and this one is much prettier to boot.

Nice Product,

I purchased this scale to replace another. I love the precision (.1 oz), tare functionality, and ability to switch beween pounds and kilograms. The only shortcoming, the glass cannot be removed for cleaning in the sink. I just spray it with cleaner...

Stylish and functional, but a few flaws,

This review is from: Soehnle Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver (Kitchen)
I use this scale almost every day. It's small enough and stylish enough that I leave it on the counter right behind my cutting board. Overall, I think it is attractive and functional, but it has a few minor but annoying flaws.
Visibility: The display extends forward of the weighing platform, meaning that the weight is visible even when a medium sized bowl is on the platform. With a large sized bowl, however, the weight is difficult to see. The tradeoff, however, is that the scale is rather compact. It's a trade-off that I'm willing to take. Ease of use: The scale is extremely easy to use. There are only two buttons (tare/zero and grams/ounces), which are both easily accessible on the front of the scale. It's extremely easy to switch back and forth between grams and ounces. When the ounces go over 16, the scale automatically displays the weight in pounds and ounces. Energy use: The battery lasts several years for me, even though I use my scale almost every day. The scale has an auto-off feature, which is generally helpful but sometimes annoying. Sometimes I want to tare out a bowl, then add vegetables to the bowl as I cut them, then find out the total weight. It's not possible, however, because the scale turns off while I cut the vegetables. I wish there was a way to temporarily extend the time until it turns itself off. Accuracy and precision: This scale can weigh relatively small amounts, down to 1 gram or 0.05 ounces, which I find very useful. I've never checked the accuracy, but I've never noticed any problems with my recipes. Speed: The time for the weight to register or switch from grams to ounces is reasonable. I sometimes wish it was a tad faster, but it's acceptable. Cleaning. The scale is easy to clean with a damp cloth. I read that the glass weighing platform is removable, but I've never been able to get mine out. Max weight: The max weight is sufficient for me. I've never needed to weigh anything heavier six or seven pounds. My main gripe is that for some reason if you put something heavy on the scale (like my 8 cup pyrex measuring cup), then turn it on, it doesn't register. You have to turn it on, let it register to zero, then put the heavy item on and then tare it. It doesn't take that long, but it's annoying. I don't know what the problem is, but I don't have this problem with light items, only heavy ones. I used to have the Salter Housewares Aquatronic Baker's Dream, but I like my Soehnle better because it's nicer looking, it's easier to read, and it can weigh smaller increments.

Really Like This Scale -- Great Customer Service,
By Kathy Richards (McGuire AFB) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soehnle Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver (Kitchen)
Lots to like about this scale. Sleek design. Nine pound capacity. Extremely accurate. Very easy to use with only two buttons: 1) power on/off (also used to zero out weight so you can determine weight of each item as it is added on) and 2) switch from OUNCES/POUNDS to GRAMS.
Only con: larger items may obscure view of display. Best of all, great customer service! I damaged the battery cover -- searched the internet & found Soehnle contact info for overseas -- e-mailed them and they send me contact info for USA. Called them and they answered immediately (no wait). In just a couple days they sent me a new battery cover -- no charge!

Best kitchen scale ever,
This review is from: Soehnle Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver (Kitchen)
I bought the Soehnle kitchen scale based on the recommmendation from Cook's magazine. I had no idea how far off the accuracy of my measuring cups were, especially when measuring flour. I bake a lot & always measure carefully, but sometimes the crumb of breads & cakes wouldn't be quite right. The Soelne scale is also beautiful, it looks like a piece of sculpture.I use it so much, that I leave it out on my countertop. I don't know how I did without it.

The little plastic feet.,

We like lthe scale very much; it seems to be quite accurate for us. I think one has to get used to using it. But, I do have one complaint; if you move the scale, draging it a little, the feet come off. Our house cleaner dragged it the other day, and now we are missing 2 of the 6 little plastic feet, which make the scale tipsy.

Very acurate and Stylish,
This review is from: Soehnle Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver (Kitchen)
This Scale works well. Though it looks top heavy it is very stable. It is proudly displayed on the kitchen counter. I measure almost everything I eat for Weight Watchers and this scale does the trick. It's easy to clean. You can set the scale to be primarily used for Metric or U.S. Customary Units.

I bought this scale back in June of this year, and I LOVE IT!!!! I use it practically every day and have absolutely no complaints. It's been such a big help to me in my diet. It's accurate and beautiful. I love having it on my counter. I have no trouble cleaning it, either. I just use one of those handy pop-up wipes (the kind that come in the plastic canister). Takes just a few seconds. It's one of the best purchases I've made this year. I've recommended it to my niece, who's just starting her diet.

This scale is a joy to have out in my kitchen! Even though I don't use it every day, I left it out on the counter. It looks very sleek and matches other items in my kitchen perfectly! I am really glad I bought it - it is a real jewel and is very versatile!
