3.0 out of 5 stars I can live with it but ..., March 4, 2008
By
This review is from: Soehnle Level Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver/Black (Kitchen)
Positives: Design looks good, Accurate scale, Maximum weight measurable, Different measurement units.

Negatives: The one-button-does-all control. You can only change from gram to ml or lb/oz immediately after you switch on the scale by repeatedly pushing that button. If you wait a second too long the scale is set to zero and then pushing the button will no longer switch from gram to ml etc. but rather switch the scale back off. Suppose you just added flour to your mix, measured in gram and you then want to add water in ml, you have to switch off the scale, then switch it on again and immediately push the button to switch to ml. Then proceed to adding the water.
If it were up to me, I would rather have three separate buttons: 1) An ON/OFF button 2) A "Zero" button, and 3) A button that switches the scale from gram to oz to ml.

Update on my review:
Now that I have had my scale for a few months, I unfortunately can no longer recommend it. After about 1.5 months of weekend only use, the push button on the scale started working only intermittently. It became increasingly difficult to get the button to work (had to push harder and harder) until finally it wouldn't work at all. I sent the scale in to the manufacturer and received a good one back from them. This cost me $9 in shipping. I thought this is still OK as long as I finally have a good scale to work with. However, about a month after I received the new scale (I don't know whether they had repaired mine or just sent me a new one - I couldn't tell) I started getting the exact same problem again. Now I have to take the battery out and put it back in in order to get the scale to switch on. I will update this report as things develop, but at this point I would reduce my rating to 1 star. Customer service is good, they are helpful and your warranty is honored, but I am starting to suspect a design flaw in this model.

Further update:
I took the scale apart. The problem is that by design the electronics board underneath the push button is not sealed properly from the outside world. As a result, flour dust will get in and settle in the contact area of the push button switch. I blew the flour dust out and it works again for a while until more dust comes in and the game begins again. So, it's fixable for people who like to constantly tinker, but not my idea of a reliable scale.
However, on the positive side: After complaining to them, customer service sent me a different type of scale with a sealed design and touch sensitive buttons and I am VERY HAPPY with that different scale. No problems whatsoever - so far. So, don't throw all Soehnle scales into the same basket. Some of them are great, just not this one, and I like their customer service.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sleek and Accurate, May 12, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Soehnle Level Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver/Black (Kitchen)
Low profile stainless steel scale with digital control features provides quick and accurate weight measurement, and switches quickly to metric measurement when needed. It features a large weight platform for various container sizes and weights up to eleven pounds. The display panel is set into a bevel at the front corner so the weight can be easily seen. This scale feels solid and is slender enough to stand up on edge on your counter for easy storage.

Negatives: The weight platform is large enough to accommodate almost anything you would want to weigh in the normal kitchen, but if you try to weigh anything larger in size than the scale, it is very difficult to read the weight since the read out panel in on a bevel, and would be underneath the item being weighed.

The multi-function digital control button is a little difficult to master at first. You can only change from the default metric system to pounds and ounces immediately after you switch on the scale by repeatedly pushing the button. If you hesitate the scale is set to zero weight and then pushing the button again switches the scale back off. This is irritating when you are up to your elbows in a recipe. This function would be easier if you could set the default system, or if it were controlled with three separate buttons.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weight option error!, May 22, 2009

This review is from: Soehnle Level Digital Kitchen Scale, Silver/Black (Kitchen)
It is accurate and compact however the description is in error. Your description states that it will weigh 11 pound x .01 oz. increments. It weighs up to 11 pounds x .1 oz. increments. That is a big difference when weighing essential oils and lye!
