Editorial Reviews

2011 compilation from one of the UK's leading Afro, Caribbean and Latin music party collectives, Sofrito. Comprising DJs Hugo Mendez and Frankie Francis alongside The Mighty Crime Minister, Sofrito has consistently combined the serious vinyl hunter's ear for amazing records with a stylish, accessible approach, rocking dancefloors worldwide since their inception in 2007. For their debut compilation, Sofrito get the party started with 15 dynamite tropical grooves old and new ranging from cumbia, Congolese guitar, calypso and highlife. Highlights include an exclusive cumbia by Quantic, 'Cumbia Mochilla', a new edit of a rare Victor Uwaifo disco cut and firing Carnival jams from old-timers Roaring Lion and Mighty Shadow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot dancefloor fillers of an afro carribean pedigree. January 19, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Excellent compilation from a dj collective operating "Sofrito" parties in East London beginning in in 2005. The 15 tracks selected flow effortlessly and are dancefloor favorites, this is what the party-goers responded to. Mid-70s-80s beats blown in from locales such as Nigeria, Columbia, Ghana, Guadaloupe, Congo, French Guyana, Benin & Trinadad. Move the coffee table, mix up some rum runners and let it flow. Hopefully we'll see some additional editions.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hold my Margarita, Let's Salsa! August 20, 2011

From the western coast of Belize to the deep Brazilian forest, this album shines as one of Strut Records gem releases. This particular album is a massive underground hit in the hipster scene of eastern London. Sit back and groove or party all night, great album!

4.0 out of 5 stars worth adding to the collection October 4, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I had a digital version of this album and thought it worth buying a "hard" copy.
It has a collection of tropical sounds, all held together with a consistently satisfying bass
foundation.
Just add rum and sunshine
