5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent AEG, June 28, 2010
This review is from: Soft Air Thompson 1928 AEG Airsoft Gun (Sports)
First things first, im Jonathan's son, my Dad can't type to save his life.

I bought this gun at a local big 5 when they had a sale on this gun, so I can't say anything about the shipping experience. Ill go straight to performance.

The Thompson itself is weighted to the real gun, roughly 10ish pounds give or take. The weapon itself, aside from the immitation wood, its metal. Accoding to the description, the gearbox is metal, but I can't say as I didn't open it up yet. The length and size is also life-size, so you need to be full grown to use this, else you will have a fair ammount of trouble carrying it. The forward hand grip is attatcked to the rest of the body by two screws, as mentioned by the previous review. Tighten them every now and then, else they WILL be loose. The hand grip construction is otherwise solid.

Performance-wise, I have only seen tokyo mauri guns with this kind of performance. The FPS is calculated using .12 gram BBs on the box, its nowhere near 425 with heavier BB's. With 20 grams, its around 370-390ish. With 25 grams its roughly 350, but I haven't clocked it, its going by rough estimates. Accuracy is incredible with this gun, I was able to hit the center of a sticky target consistently with no effort whatsoever, even on full auto at roughly 35 feet. This gun has precision and accuracy in one sweet package. The RPM is 750-850, according to the box, and it seems correct. The sight is very simple, and has slight elevation and windage adjustments. Its fairly straightforward, so don't worry. The hop-up is tricky to get right, but works fine on my end.

The gun seems fairly rugged, and according to friends who have had it for a while, the thompson is a very durable gun so long as you don't horse around with it, or drop it often. The "wood" is really plastic, but it would take a close inspection to figure out.

The magazine that comes with the thompson is also excellent. It holds roughly 450 BB's and when fully wound up, I can fire for roughly 5 seconds straight. The mag is also very easy to wind up. The mag release it very stubborn however, and you may need to lubricate it, because it is a total pain to remove. In case if you were wondering, yes, it is compatable with the regular stick mags. I strongly reccomend buying 1 or 2 instead of a drum mag, as they are MUCH easier to carry.

On a final note, although this gun seems to have 2 sling mounts, it does NOT. I repeat, it does NOT have 2 sling mounts, only one. You will either have to deal without it or buy a one point sling (look it up on amazon). Its annoying, but not worth taking a star off for.

Long story short, this is a durable, accurate, powerful, and well designed AEG that is excellent for all airsoft players who can't shell out 400+ on a tokyo mauri or classic army gun.

3.0 out of 5 stars The second one was great!, March 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Soft Air Thompson 1928 AEG Airsoft Gun (Sports)
The product arrived, and everything appeared as advertised, and as we read in the other reviews. After charging the battery for 5 hours, the gun did not work at all. Amazon was great about returning it, and promptly sent us a replacement, along with a return label for the first gun. The second one worked perfectly. It appears that there was an internal wiring issue with the first gun.

Per the otehr review, this is a heavy gun, but it is very realistic, and shoots well. haven't seen any problems with jamming. The power is good, and aim is very good. I'd recommend it, but be prepared to have issues with the gun, and make sure you work with a reputable company, with a generous return policy like Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Looking and Performing AEG!, February 12, 2010
By
MGB (California, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soft Air Thompson 1928 AEG Airsoft Gun (Sports)
I picked this item up locally for about $300 including tax when they first came out, and even at that price I feel it was worth the money. This is a sharp looking gun, and it's very accurate when you use good 20g BBs. The stock and grips are made of plastic but look like real wood, and the weight of the gun is very realistic. There are some foam pieces in the stock that can be removed to accommodate larger batteries or parallel battery packs. Its built well and has an all metal gear box so you don't have to worry about stripping gears or other problems associated with cheap guns that use plastic gear boxes. The included battery and charger are adequate but the charger is not automatic so you need to make sure you don't over charge your battery. The only problem I have with this gun would be the two screws located under the barrel between the forward grip and drum magazine will come loose during normal use. It's not a big deal if you check them now and then. Also, Cybergun's listed 426fps is actually over rated and was most likely calculated using real lightweight BB's which are not accurate for game play. The more realistic rating for this gun using 20g BB's is in the low to mid 300's depending on your specific gun.

Pros:
Good looking accurate replica of the Thompson
Good performance
Room for larger batteries
Extra magazines are available

Cons:
Two screws that back out during normal use
Over rated fps by the manufacturer
Battery charger is not automatic

Bottom line:

This is a great gun for anyone from beginners to advanced player on a budget. I would also be great for collectors of Thompson replicas.

I will be buying another one of these soon since my dad had to "borrow" mine over three months ago, and now I can't pry away from him. I don't think he's going to give it back without a fight...
