An excellent AEG,

This review is from: Soft Air Thompson 1928 AEG Airsoft Gun (Sports)
First things first, im Jonathan's son, my Dad can't type to save his life.
I bought this gun at a local big 5 when they had a sale on this gun, so I can't say anything about the shipping experience. Ill go straight to performance. The Thompson itself is weighted to the real gun, roughly 10ish pounds give or take. The weapon itself, aside from the immitation wood, its metal. Accoding to the description, the gearbox is metal, but I can't say as I didn't open it up yet. The length and size is also life-size, so you need to be full grown to use this, else you will have a fair ammount of trouble carrying it. The forward hand grip is attatcked to the rest of the body by two screws, as mentioned by the previous review. Tighten them every now and then, else they WILL be loose. The hand grip construction is otherwise solid. Performance-wise, I have only seen tokyo mauri guns with this kind of performance. The FPS is calculated using .12 gram BBs on the box, its nowhere near 425 with heavier BB's. With 20 grams, its around 370-390ish. With 25 grams its roughly 350, but I haven't clocked it, its going by rough estimates. Accuracy is incredible with this gun, I was able to hit the center of a sticky target consistently with no effort whatsoever, even on full auto at roughly 35 feet. This gun has precision and accuracy in one sweet package. The RPM is 750-850, according to the box, and it seems correct. The sight is very simple, and has slight elevation and windage adjustments. Its fairly straightforward, so don't worry. The hop-up is tricky to get right, but works fine on my end. The gun seems fairly rugged, and according to friends who have had it for a while, the thompson is a very durable gun so long as you don't horse around with it, or drop it often. The "wood" is really plastic, but it would take a close inspection to figure out. The magazine that comes with the thompson is also excellent. It holds roughly 450 BB's and when fully wound up, I can fire for roughly 5 seconds straight. The mag is also very easy to wind up. The mag release it very stubborn however, and you may need to lubricate it, because it is a total pain to remove. In case if you were wondering, yes, it is compatable with the regular stick mags. I strongly reccomend buying 1 or 2 instead of a drum mag, as they are MUCH easier to carry. On a final note, although this gun seems to have 2 sling mounts, it does NOT. I repeat, it does NOT have 2 sling mounts, only one. You will either have to deal without it or buy a one point sling (look it up on amazon). Its annoying, but not worth taking a star off for. Long story short, this is a durable, accurate, powerful, and well designed AEG that is excellent for all airsoft players who can't shell out 400+ on a tokyo mauri or classic army gun.

The second one was great!,

The product arrived, and everything appeared as advertised, and as we read in the other reviews. After charging the battery for 5 hours, the gun did not work at all. Amazon was great about returning it, and promptly sent us a replacement, along with a return label for the first gun. The second one worked perfectly. It appears that there was an internal wiring issue with the first gun.
Per the otehr review, this is a heavy gun, but it is very realistic, and shoots well. haven't seen any problems with jamming. The power is good, and aim is very good. I'd recommend it, but be prepared to have issues with the gun, and make sure you work with a reputable company, with a generous return policy like Amazon.

Great Looking and Performing AEG!,

I picked this item up locally for about $300 including tax when they first came out, and even at that price I feel it was worth the money. This is a sharp looking gun, and it's very accurate when you use good 20g BBs. The stock and grips are made of plastic but look like real wood, and the weight of the gun is very realistic. There are some foam pieces in the stock that can be removed to accommodate larger batteries or parallel battery packs. Its built well and has an all metal gear box so you don't have to worry about stripping gears or other problems associated with cheap guns that use plastic gear boxes. The included battery and charger are adequate but the charger is not automatic so you need to make sure you don't over charge your battery. The only problem I have with this gun would be the two screws located under the barrel between the forward grip and drum magazine will come loose during normal use. It's not a big deal if you check them now and then. Also, Cybergun's listed 426fps is actually over rated and was most likely calculated using real lightweight BB's which are not accurate for game play. The more realistic rating for this gun using 20g BB's is in the low to mid 300's depending on your specific gun.
Pros: Good looking accurate replica of the Thompson Good performance Room for larger batteries Extra magazines are available Cons: Two screws that back out during normal use Over rated fps by the manufacturer Battery charger is not automatic Bottom line: This is a great gun for anyone from beginners to advanced player on a budget. I would also be great for collectors of Thompson replicas. I will be buying another one of these soon since my dad had to "borrow" mine over three months ago, and now I can't pry away from him. I don't think he's going to give it back without a fight...

We received the air soft gun, charged gun as instructed. It did not work..not happy campers : Went online to Amazon to return item. Had NO trouble at all with Amazon returning this for a new gun. Received the second gun within a week. It worked perfect. This air soft gun belongs to my son so I can't tell you all the details...just know that he LOVES this air soft gun. I love Amazon...even though my son was very upset about the first gun not working(which is not Amazon's fault) I was very pleased how easy it is to return something to Amazon.

By the way, I'm not Ronald. I'm his son.
I got this gun some time ago, and so far it has served me well. I had been saving for the Thompson M1A1 model, and somehow changed to the M1928 model. Besides that fact, I will now go on to the actual review. This gun is the fully liscenced Thompson M1928 model. It has all the correct patents and is entirely historically accurate other than the bolt. The bolt should be on top, however it has been moved onto the side (my feeling is this helps with aiming; who would want a big knob obstructing their sights?). The gun has full metal construction except for the wood parts which are in fact ABS plastic. The "wood" is extremely well done and if I had not known it was plastic before I got it I would have been stumped. The gearbox is metal, like the exterior. I have not opened it up yet but people who have say it's metal. The fps is LOWER than advertised. In small print it says "360 fps with .20 gram bb's". It also says give or take 10% on the values of the gun (e.g. range, accuracy, fps etc.) The rate of fire is about 700 rpm's (rounds per minute), which isn't bad. It's not the best, but still good. The problem with the magazine: People say it is easily broken. This is true, up until a point. I had some friends over at my house and was showing them the gun. One of my guests turned turned the magazine the wrong way. I looked up a video on youtube how to fix the magazine and step by step did so. It has not broken since even with being turned in the wrong direction and being dropped. There is NO FRONT SLING MOUNT, which is not that good, but is easily overlooked. The battery compartment is in the stock, and is easily acessed. There will be a foam thing you will need to remove from the battery compartment with a corkscrew. About the performance of the gun: Accuracy would be 7 out of 10 stars, as the bb's spread out at longer range. Durability: The gun has been dropped multiple times, and has been used in airsoft wars in the rain. 9.6 out of 10 stars. Feel: The gun feels very solid and is as heavy as the real model. I do not, however have any trouble carrying it around the battlefield. Also, when you hold the gun, the sights are about eye level, which makes aiming easy (the rear sight IS adjustable). For overall feel of the gun, 10 out of 10 stars. Value: Amazon has this gun the lowest priced I have ever seen it. It goes for $200+ on some sites and $385 on the manufacterers website(cybergun). 10 out of 10 stars. Magazine Capacity: Good magazine capacity at 450 rounds, which is more than most other Hi-cap mags. 9 out of 10 stars. Battery: It comes with an 8.4 volt NiMh battery and charger. The battery lasts for 5 450 round magazines. NOTE: DO NOT CHARGE THE BATTERY OVER 5 HOURS!!! This WILL fry your battery. (It hasn't happened to me, but be wary and set a timer). 9.4 out of 10 stars. Pro's and Con's Pro's: Good accuracy Great durability (except for magazine) Great value Great feel Good rate of fire Simply looks Awsome Good magazine capacity Mostly historicly accurate Metal Gearbox with Steel gears Con's: No front sling mount Battery can be fried Magazine can break Overall, 10 out of 10 stars. I hope you enjoyed my review and that it was helpful! NOTE: Use only .20 gram bb's with this gun.

Good gun,

Well, this gun was kind of an impulse buy. I'm not much of an airsoft player but I just love the guns. That being said, the first time I got this gun it came with a defective magazine. I was displeased, to say the least, and thought about just getting a refund since I shouldn't have bought it in the first place. But after just holding the gun in my hands and feeling how realistic and amazing it felt, I fell in love, and placed a request for a replacement.
Amazon was extremely good to me with the replacement. They provided everything I needed to return the faulty gun and even arranged for UPS to come pick it up from my house. Not only that, they shipped out the replacement with one day shipping, at no extra charge, and before the faulty gun was shipped back to them. I received the new one on the same day UPS picked the faulty one. Now that I have the new one... I can say it's amazing. As I said before, the gun just feels very nice and realistic in your hands. I charged the battery for about an hour before I gave in and decided to go out and have some fun with it. I shot at the box it came in and at a few soda cans and it chewed through them like it was nothing. One thing bad about the gun is the fact that, as someone previously stated, you're not going to be able to fire off 450 rounds non-stop. In my five minutes of shooting, I had to wind up the gun about 5-10 different times. But, as I'm not a big airsoft player, it's not that big of a deal. I can see how this would be a burden in matches, though. Also, my only other problem with the gun is the battery life. For an hour's charge it only gave me about 5 minutes of shooting. Not a huge deal for me personally, but, again, I can see how this could bother other people more. All in all, it's a good gun and I would recommend it if you're looking for a nice, realistic looking and feeling Tommy Gun. Pros: -Shoots hard and fast -Looks and feels extremely nice Cons: -Magazine frequently misloads -Low battery life

The gun seems to operate fine when the magazine actually feeds it. Had problems with the magazine since it came out of the box. The spring inside the magazine broke. I repaired it as best I could, then a plastic portion inside broke rendering it useless.

I purchased this gun last minute for my son for Christmas. It arrived in plenty of time and was well packaged. This thing is SUPER easy to load and it has plenty of power. I am looking forward to having lots of fun with this. I may have to order a second one for myself. Oh and Amazon's price is about $100 bucks cheaper than the big sporting goods store
