1.0 out of 5 stars not impressed
I tried 2 recipes from this book and was sufficiently disappointed that I will probably not use this book again. The "Four-Spice Fantasies" were completely bland and puffy/cakey in texture rather than chewy, while the "Oatmeal Cinnamon" cookies, though better than the former, were nothing to write home about. People should let me know if any of her...

This book does not contain tantalizing photos or fancy illustrations, however it has recipes you will love to make over and over again and get excited to try next! I am a culinary arts student and I can appreciate recipes that will turn out "as promised" products without having to tweak them. This book is perfect for those who love to try combination of unique flavors as well as traditional ones. Instructions are very clear and very SIMPLE to follow! As indicated, cookies are SOFT and CHEWY! It's a "must have" on your bookshelf for fail proof cookies in no time! Have fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spectacular Cookies, December 26, 1999

I checked this book out from the library approximately a jillion times, and then realized that I needed to own it. (It's probably not a good idea to drop chocolate cookie dough on a library book, after all!) The cookies are wonderful, make excellent lunch box additions, and the recipes are very clear. My kids' friends love to come over, just to eat my cookies!

5.0 out of 5 stars favorite cookies, March 30, 2005
I absolutely love the recipes in this book (I have the original edition). To get the truly chewy effect on some of them, you really have to follow the recipe on the size. It seems odd to use so much dough for one cookie, but they really turn out better that way (instead of 3/4 or 1 inch balls, the recipes generally use 1.5 inches). I highly recommend the snickerdoodles recipe. I've tried many of the other recipes as well over the years and enjoyed them all. I'm looking forward to trying the recipes in the new edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars My FAVORITE cookie cookbook, March 11, 2008

As a cookbook collector, and an avid baker, I can tell you that this book is worth it's weight in gold. Each and every recipe I've tried, in all the years I've had it (I have the original book), has never produced even one failure. The CLASSIC CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES are by far the best recipe I've ever found. The recipes are very easy to follow, and there are many unique cookies in this book.
To the reviewer who "wasn't impressed", perhaps your oven's temperature needs to be checked.

This book was not quite what I expected. It assumes that you are already an accomplished cookie baker (I am) and gives recipes that are quite tempting but no methods on mixing. It does offer a few tips on here an there but I would not recommed this book for a novice cookie baker

I'm glad I ordered the book Big, Soft, Chewy Cookies. Can't wait to start baking. Just wish it had a recipe for soft sugar cookies.
