5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal Talent, August 18, 2003
By Shelby P (Colorado Springs, CO) - See all my reviews
Two years ago I was been turned onto Ellis by a friend who sent me her CDs... and after rooting through hundreds of artists, mainstream and smalltown, she still remains one of my favorites. For anyone who is a fan of solo girls (+ their guitars!) i.e. Ferrick, Jennifer Nettles, Ani, Catie Curtis; it would be a mistake to pass Ellis by. Her lyrics seem like something plucked out of your journal, comforting and encouraging. There hasn't been another artist in my collection whose CDs are as timeless as "Soft Day" and "Everything is Real". I don't think I can say enough about how amazing of an artist she is... you just have to listen for yourself :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ellis is great!, March 8, 2001
By A Customer
Her songs are accoustic and heartfelt. she plays well, and sings from her heart. the album is touchingly dediticated to her grandmother, for whom she wrote the song "Soft Day." She has a wide range of styles for one CD, especially considering (I think) that she played all her songs herself, with the help of her bassist from the group Bobby Llama. "Pick-Up Song" is delightfully written. starting "A glossy picture on a magazine/ Will surely tell you I'm no beauty queen," continuing "if we get together, who knows. take a chance, a little romance . . ." and ending with her singing 4-part harmony with herself. It's a very impressive song, and contrasts heavily with "soft day." The latter is about her grandmother (but it could be about anyone, it's not specific) living longer than the doctors predicted she would. Soft day means raining in Ireland. "It is a soft day, when the anges come . . . when an end comes to your suffering." It is quite a beautiful song. the first song on the album is also one of my favorites, but I really could say that about all her songs. "walking around, got my city frown on, i am happy . . ." She has quite a vocabulary for songs, and she displays it on this CD. There is also a hidden track if you let the CD run when it's over. It is a brief song about a coffee shop that I'm sure everyone can identify with. I cannot recommend this CD enough. it is absolutely excellent. you'll be singing all the songs with her every time you hear it.
