I just received a sample of this product from another quilter. As some of you know, Steam - A - Seam 2 Lite has been the fusible web of choice for many of us who do fusible applique. That product is no longer available. The first thing I noticed about this new product, Soft Fuse Premium, is it has only one paper side so there is no difficulty deciding which side to trace on. I traced the pattern pieces onto the one side that had paper, then roughly cut the pieces out and divided them according to whatever color fabric I planned to use. Because the directions showed an iron with 270 degrees on it, I set my iron on "linen", placed the pieces on the wrong side of the fabric and pressed for about 10 seconds. It didn't seem to make any difference if I used steam or not. The web adhered to the fabric very well and quickly although there were a couple of corners that popped up. That was immediately remedied by going over them again with the iron. As I cut the pattern pieces out, I noticed the pattern pieces seemed to be a little softer, not as stiff, as with Steam - A - Seam 2 Lite.

I proceeded to applique the pieces onto the background, again with the iron set at "linen", and satin stitched around each piece as I usually would with Steam - A - Seam 2 Lite. Soft Fuse Premium is not sticky like Steam - A - Seam 2 Lite. Therefore, instead of using a table for placement of the applique pieces, I did it right on the ironing board. I could see no differences between Steam - A - Seam 2 Lite and Soft Fuse Premium other than stickiness and paper on just one side. To me, these difference were not significant, did not interfere in any way with the process of applique.

It doesn't quite stick as well as some as the other fusible web products I have used, but I really like the size of the sheets. There is much less waste.

I love this fusible. Very lightweight, but works well for many applique purposes, and does not gum up my sewing machine needle!
