My dog trainer recommended using the Martingale to transition away from the gentle leader. My dog has responded very well. She can still feel a slight correction if she pulls on the leash, but it doesn't irritate her as much as a loop around her snout. This collar works well because it has a clasp to make it easy for taking on and off my dog. I have a slender Border Collie so I'm glad I ordered the small. Make sure you measure your dog's neck instead of basing it on breed size.
