2.0 out of 5 stars "Soft Rain" is more for children.
I feel that "Soft Rain" doesn't depict the happenings of the Cherokee Trail of Tears very well. I guess I was looking for more detail. Don't buy this book unless it's for a child; this would be a good book for children.

This review is from: Soft Rain (Hardcover)
Soft Rain is a nine year old Cherokee girl living with her family on their little farm in North Carolina. One day at school, Soft Rain is told her people will be "relocated" to Oklahoma. Soft Rain is filled with sorrow at leaving her home. She and her mother are seperated from her father, brother, and grandmother. They endure hunger, hardship, sorrow, and the loss of friends and relatives. Through it all, Soft Rain can only survive by relying on her courage. I highly reccomend this sad, moving book.

A Kid's Review
This book tells about a young girl traveling west with her family and the trials they go through. I believe this book is a awesome book that you should read because it gives you a child's view of the Trail of Tears.

A beautifully illustrated book about a child on the Cheerokee Trail of Tears. Easy to read for younger grade students. I am happy to give the book to my grandchildren for knowledge about the first native Americans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft Rain -An Inspirational Story, December 3, 2010

My 11-year old son was assigned this book over the summer and did a "diary" project with it for school this September. He loved the story as he is a history buff, but it also brought the historical detail into personal focus by following the personal saga of "Soft Rain" along her journey along the Cherokee Trail of Tears.

2.0 out of 5 stars Soft Rain, June 5, 2006
Our class read Soft Rain when we were studying The Trail Of Tears, a forced march taken by the Cherokee people in 1838.
In the beginning, a girl named Soft Rain lived peacefully with with her family and dog. Then, a horrible letter comes.
Next, Soft Rain and Mama were taken away by soldiers and had to leave. They were kept in a stockade.
Finally, they were sent west and reunited with their family. They started a new life.
I thought the book was O.K. and had good details. I think people should read this book because it is suspenseful. It was a good book!
