I am a professional pet sitter and I have seen every possible attempt to control litter scatter outside of the box. Trust me, this design is the only true answer to that annoying mess that the cat will inevitably leave no matter what kind of litter you use.

The top is a grate and literally catches nearly all of the litter stuck to your cat's paws and it is then dropped down to a tray below. To clean, you simply remove the top and dump the stray litter in the garbage. The best part is that your cat will not continue to walk back and forth through tossed out litter thereby creating more mess. Once it is dropped into the tray, it is out of the way. NO MORE MESS!

For some reason, PetSmart stopped carrying the square version (and any version, for that matter) and I prefer that one to this. BUT the design is basically the same and results are awesome.

I was becoming increasingly frustrated with having to sweep up messy cat litter every other day, especially when it combined with water from the tub to become a melty mess. So, I did a little searching and bought the Sage King Soft Touch Track Mat.

Thus far, I've been impressed with this mat. It's really different from traditional rubber or fabric mats. The Soft Touch Track Mat it made of two parts: the top grill where a cat steps, the base which is a tray. When my kitty steps on this, the litter falls off his feet, through the grill and into the tray where I can dump it back into the litter box.

How well does it work? Pretty amazingly! I was sweeping every other day but now I only need to sweep up the stray litter about once a week. It's not perfect, but pretty close.

I was hesitant, though, because the Amazon picture really does not give a good impression of the size of this mat. It's bigger than it looks but not so big that it is in the way. I have a smaller sized (14 x 10 inches) litter box and the curved edge of this mat lines up pretty much perfectly with the shorter side of the litter box. This might not be the best option for larger litter boxes or tiny spaces, however.

Lastly, the reason this works is ebcause my cat actually walks on it. he was hesitant at first but now has no problem with the Sage King Mat because the top plastic grate is soft, without any roughness or sharp edges.

Generally there are two different kinds of mats you can buy to put by the cat's litter box. One kind is very similar to the type of product they sell to help you train your cats to stay off of the counters, certain furniture, etc. This is an item that always makes me think of the bottom of a "chair mat", with the little pointy things that dig into the carpet. Cats don't like stepping on these! They will make every effort to jump over or walk around them! The other option is more like a rug... which will get cat litter caught in it and you can't clean it out. It doesn't take long before it starts to stink!

This mat is neither of those. It has a nice flat surface that the cats don't mind walking on. It also has separate top and bottom pieces, so you can VERY EASILY take it apart and clean it so it doesn't get stinky. We have had this mat for a little over a month now, and we have been VERY pleased with it. I highly recommend it!

I ordered this product to put in front of the entry to our two cats' enclosed litter box, in the hope that it would cut down on the amount of kitty litter I find scattered across my floors. It hasn't helped. I've had the mat down for a month or two now, and I'm still finding kitty litter everywhere, from the hall, to the bedrooms, to the living room. I even resorted to putting coarse fabric rugs down in the storage room off the hall where the litter box is, and even that hasn't helped!

On the positive side, the mat is soft and comfy for my kitties' paws. And it does trap a good bit of litter, as I can see when we empty the bin under the mesh mat. It just doesn't get it all--not even close. It may help if the mat was bigger, so that the cats took more steps on it, but I'm not sure even that would be enough.

Overall, it's a decent mat, but it doesn't quite deliver when it comes to cutting down on kitty litter on my floors.

This is a great product! My cat doesn't mind stepping on it and it collects a lot of litter from her paws. We use this along with the Booda Step Dome and we hardly have any litter on the floor now! Yay!!!

Don't waste your money. This does not get litter off of kitty feet--the rug that came with the cat genie is much more effective.

Great concept; waaaaaaay too small to function as intended. A cat needs to take at least 3 steps PER paw to capture the litter. As it is, my small cats step 1-2 paws before they're off of this kitty litter tray and on to my tile and carpets. We accept the mess because we enjoy our cats, but do have to sweep or vacuum everyday. The tray actually is pretty empty each time and gets in the way of cleaning...make it bigger. Twice as big.

This track mat seems to work fairly well. I noticed that with Fresh Step Litter it didn't always catch everything from my cat's feet but it seems to work very well on the wheat based litter he is now using. Its design highly encourages the litter box to have a limited opening so that the cat has to exit by way of the mat.

Why an oval shape? Most litter boxes are rectangular, and this mat does not complement them. My cats have jumped every which way to avoid standing on the mat; it seems to unnerve them, since it is (in concept) a cattle guard type device. Something with a checkerboard type filter would probably be less unpleasant to them, and would give better support, especially to large or heavy cats.

The concept is excellent; in theory I wouldn't have to sweep the floor anymore. But to be effective, the mat needs to be large enough so that my litter box could sit in the center of it with the mat edges extending quite a bit outward, on all sides, so that my cats have to step on it.

I had my litter box in my bathroom and it got EVERYWHERE. This works best with a litterbox that is covered or has a small entrance/exit. When I used an open litter box, my cats avoided stepping on it, but it still caught a ton of litter. With 3 adult cats, I highly recommend this product. The reviews speak for it! I thought the price was a bit high at first, but I splurged and I LOVE IT!! My family is thanking me for no more litter on the feet!
