NOT the same as the book,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Softies Kit: Instructions and Tools for Creating 15 Plush Pals (Hardcover)
I have the book and the kit and they are not the same. As it says in the description, there are 15 patterns--10 new, 5 from the book. The new patterns are:
Japanese Cherry Cake, which is a fancy version of Party Cake from the book Little Penguin, which can be seen on the cover. (Round, cute penguin! Yay!) Hambone, a stuffed ham, which is completely adorable and enough reason to buy the kit as far as I'm concerned. Little Elephant, seen on the front. There's also a pattern for a little bird to sit on his back Deer iPod Holder--self-explanatory Chick in a Bonnet--seen on the cover. Quickly made from felt, she's be perfect for an Easter basket. Sparkle Bunny--a felt, highly embellished bunny. Gingerbread House--a small, felt gingerbread house that I am totally going to make out of black felt and turn it into a Halloween house. Charlotte with Her Fedora--seen on the cover, an adorable chick with beaded eyelashes who seems very pleased with herself and her hat! Birthday Banner--a banner made from felt. Patterns included from the book: Paper Doll Dress--2-D felt dresses Treeling--stuffed tree Ice Cream Sandwich--an ice cream sandwich Dorian the Dog--a teeny embroidered dog Party Cake--a small stuffed cake Also included are materials to make Party Cake--a sheet of pink felt, a sheet of white felt, stuffing, white and pink embroidery floss, one needle, and a tiny pom-pom in a little plastic bag that gets lost really, really easily, so keep an eye on it. The new patterns are as cute as the ones in the Softies book, and I don't mind having 5 repeats; since the instructions are on cards in the kit that makes it easier to take them along.

Not what your thinking,

What a waste of money, I would totally return this if I could. There are some very cute patterns (all on the cover and back). Some of the patterns are so horribly ugly (read junk) that they look like they were created by a small child at summer camp. And all the patterns are on cards which makes it really easy to misplace. Most of all I want to stree these stuffies are REALLY REALLY tiny about 6 inches tall.
From the cost of this you may think you are getting a "kit" you are not. You will get 2 small HORRIBLE pieces of super cheap felt which are totally see-through, 2 skiens of cross stitching floss, a pom pom lost in the first 5 seconds, a cheap needle and some batting in a plastic bag...some cards and a piece of paper with tiny patterns printed on them, the finished items (which you will need to buy a lot more stuff to complete)are so tiny they are hard to sew. Save your money and buy something else!

Not a good buy,
This review is from: Softies Kit: Instructions and Tools for Creating 15 Plush Pals (Hardcover)
When i bought the Softies Kit i thought that i would start a new hobbie of making softies. Much to my distaste the book did not easily describe how to make softies, and as an inexperienced beginner i struggled to understand how to begin, and didnt understand the instructions.
The back of the book includes where you can buy materials to make softies. These resources are not that great frankly.

Softies Kit: Instructions and Tools for Creating 15 Plush Pals
I bought Therese first book - Softies. It had very useful information on how to make a softies with many pattern. Her second book Softies Kit is even better for beginner. No need to shop around for fabrics, tools, accessories, threads, needle. Everything you need is in the kit to help you to start a fun project.

Great Starter,
This review is from: Softies Kit: Instructions and Tools for Creating 15 Plush Pals (Hardcover)
First off what's the diff? Both have some of the same projects, both have instructions on individual projects, both have basic embroidery how-to's and both come with patterns, but that's about it.
There are 25 projects in the book and 15 projects in the kit, only 5 are the same in both. Two of the projects they have in common are Treeling and the Cake. One of the cutest softies in the kit is the Hambone. Biggest difference between the two is that the kit is, well, a kit. Meaning it already comes with embroidery floss, needle, and felt to make your first ever softie :D, the pattern cards are nice and handy for the on the go projects, and everything fits in a nice box. I found the directions to be very straight forward and easy to understand. The patterns are all labeled clearly and are a no brainier to figure out. The only problem I really had was with the kit, I would of liked to have the kit (floss, felt) be about a project other then one that's already in the book, but that's just a personal thing. If you've never made a softie and are looking for something to start you off with the kit might be the thing for you. Then if you've become totally obsessed like me, just buy both :D The extra pattern cards make a perfect means to spread your crafty/softie obsession to friends. http://craftychango.blogspot.com/

Another Great Activity Book in the Series,
This review is from: Softies Kit: Instructions and Tools for Creating 15 Plush Pals (Hardcover)
Another definite to buy for craft-oriented teens (and moms) for easy instructions and patterns that are separately kept in back pocket to make for easy copy and cutting.

I liked the kit very much! It's great because have nice explanations, the patterns ate cute and it's fantastic to get started at softies. As a suggestion, I would like to have more pictures/designs for some tecnichal sewing points for people like me that doesn't have english as first language and they are starting to sew. But in the end I made it and I loved my first softie, made with this kit. Great idea! Recomend for sure!!

Misleading,
This review is from: Softies Kit: Instructions and Tools for Creating 15 Plush Pals (Hardcover)
The front of the box contains a photo of 4 cute stuffed animals and it reads: "Instructions and tools for Creating 15 Plush Pals." This is not true. There are no materials included for creating any of the plush pals shown in the photo. There is a pattern and a needle and that's it.
Turn the box over and on the back it lists "Other projects:" including the Party Cake. It turns out there is only enough material and thread to create the Party Cake. One cake; no cute animals as shown on the front. Also on the back it reads: "...this kit contains *everything needed* to begin making your own furry friends..." <emphasis mine>. This is patently not true. I recently saw this product sitting in its rightful place in the bargain/clearance bin at Joann's. Do not support products like Softies with misleading marketing.

Cute little book,

A project for everyone, it has several patterns for different little animals and such, easy enough for the most inexperienced stitcher to make something. It only comes with enough floss and felt to make one of the projects in the book, a little cake. I thought it came with more, that was the only dissapointment but it's easy enough to find what you need at any craft store. Colorful, unique little projects. I enjoy making them for my little 4 year old daughter.
