3.0 out of 5 stars A first review, September 15, 2004

This review is from: Software Reflected: The Socially Responsible Programming of Our Computers (Hardcover)
A respectable book. Written in 1982, it offers much insight which is as relevant today (2004) as it was at the time of writing. The intro is a bit long-winded, but makes a good point. The mid-book fictional quiz for certification as a software professional is good. The author again makes a solid point, this time about what skills are more or less required of a (competent) software developer.

Downsides:
- perhaps a little too much anecdote for one sitting,
- author will openly admit only that professional software development is an engineering discipline (, though he does concede that it is at least in part an art, or perhaps a craft).

The book is also available electronically at the author's website.
