This book provides an indepth and quite informative overview of the field of software reuse as it pertains to systems analysis and design. It is comprehensive and well written. Overall, I would recommend it highly to current practioners, as well as those needing an introduction to this often overlooked area of importance within the realm of software engineering.

This book discusses a number of standard reuse concepts which are described more adequately in other works. The main contribution of this book is that it focuses on domain analysis. There are few books in the software world that describe domain analysis. My main issues with the book are: (1) It does not use UML notation, which is fairly well-known in the industry now; (2) It focuses on US Government reuse work and ignores other approaches; (3) It focuses on object, not components. It is fairly impractical to base a large-scale reuse effort only on objects; (4) It does not really step through how to actually perform domain analysis. It talks about it at a high level. I recommend Carma McClure's book about Software Reuse Techniques. Her chapter 19 is much more informative than this book.

One of the worst books on reuse I ever read. Lots of weird statements about OO (e.g., polymorphism allows to add attributes!?, UML is a methodology?!). The domain analysis part is incomprehensive and DOES NOT present "the author's new techniques" as the publisher claims, but rather well known ones that are better described elsewhere. For a practitioner, this book is useless, as it nowhere comes even close to good software reuse books (Jacobsen's 0201924765, Basset's 013327859X or Coplien's 0201824671).
