Sognamental, in my opinion, is one of the better black metal dvd's I own. Even if you aren't a big fan of Windir, its a good live show and some great extra footage as well. If you are a fan of Windir's music, this dvd is a must own. Valfar will be greatly missed, and this dvd is a perfect tribute to his memory.

This DVD is a fitting tribute to the great man behind Windir. Sture, Strom, and co. perform flawless renditions of some of the better-known Windir songs on this DVD. Valfar's own brother (who looks nothing like Valfar, surprisingly) performs vocals on some songs and it fits well.

I cannot stress enough how good the performances are; they will blow your mind even if you are sober. Svartesmeden og Lundamystrollet, which IMHO is Windir's best song, sounds as good as it should. Other tracks include favorites like Fagning, Arntor, ein Windir, as well as new songs (Stridsmann, + maybe something else). Strom (lead guitar) does a great job with those memorable leads; Hvall (bass), and Steingrim (drums) play their parts brilliantly as well. The sound quality is quite good; there isn't much crowd chatter, and you can hear and see the musicians all the time.

In addition to the 1h 13m concert, they have over 30 minutes of live concert footage (with Valfar). Most of these are higher quality than what you might find on Youtube. The best bit among the extras was the backstage footage. It shows you that behind all the corpsepaint and tremolo picking, Windir's just a bunch of really cool guys making incredible music.

If you are a fan of Windir and miss their music, buy this. If you are not a fan of Windir but like folk metal, buy this, and then buy Windir's albums. If you are a fan of masterfully moving arpeggios, buy this. Summary: buy this.
