5.0 out of 5 stars A Reach Into the Soul
I first heard Andrea Bocelli in a restaurant singing Time to Say Goodbye with Sarah Brightman. I wondered why I was so haunted by that song. I then bought Celine Dion's Christmas CD and literally lost my breath when I heard his duet with her. 3.0 out of 5 stars What do you mean, Sogno?
Tell me, what brought up this title? Maybe it's the idea of songs that tell of la-la lands? Or maybe it's just the tradition of romantic melodical experiences in Europe. Either way, that's the way Andrea is on this follow-up to "Romanza."

I suspect that because "Sogno" was numerically more popular than its predecessor (it sold over ten million copies here!), it's...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Reach Into the Soul, March 29, 2000
This review is from: Sogno (Audio CD)
I first heard Andrea Bocelli in a restaurant singing Time to Say Goodbye with Sarah Brightman. I wondered why I was so haunted by that song. I then bought Celine Dion's Christmas CD and literally lost my breath when I heard his duet with her. I immediately went out to get SOGNO (these 2 CD's are the first I have bought for myself in years). Listening to SOGNO, I knew I had lost my musical soul to the rich vibrancy of his voice and the way his songs could wring every bit of emotion I had from me. There is almost an ethereal quality to his voice that magnificently reveals itself in Sogno and Immenso and Canto de la Terra is incredible. I have a 17-year old son who plays Bocelli's SOGNO CD full blast in his open Jeep Wrangler and a 7-year son who listens to Bocelli and wishes some day he could sing as beautifully. As for Mother, the three men in her life gifted her with 2 new Bocelli CD's for Valentine's Day. Close your eyes. Sit back. Allow the magic of SOGNO and Andrea Bocelli to enchant and flow through you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sogno- Do more than just dream about it, July 28, 2000
This review is from: Sogno (Audio CD)
Bocelli fans who have had the delight of listening to his CD, "Aria", have experienced Bocelli's powerful voice in full operatic style. While he continues his goose-bump inspiring singing in his CD "Sogno" with his songs "Un Canto" and "Come Un Fiume Tu", Sogno really delivers much more. A veritable musical potpourri, Sogno contains a mixture of styles... ranging from a middle-eastern sound with his duet with Dulce Pontes in "'O Mare E Tu" to the popsy "Nel Cuore Lei" with Eros Ramazzoti (in both cases, you can be certain that Bocelli is the better half!). Even with the beautiful voice of Celine Dion complementing his in "The Prayer", I couldn't help but have a little dream of Bocelli singing a solo version. Alas, I found myself despairing, as the color of Bocelli's textured voice in "Tremo E T'amo". The background music in the CD was creative... perhaps a little too much? Sounds of a cafe bustle in the background of "I Love Rossini" and can be somewhat endearing once the distraction from the music dissipates. And the water running in "Come Un Fiume Tu" made me want to check my faucets. There is a choral accompaniment in a few numbers including "Canto Della Terra", although the song would have done well without it. His voice, I believe, also merits more than the slight dose of keyboard accompaniment provided in a couple songs. Perhaps it is just too easy to be spoiled by a beautiful voice like Bocelli's. He is truly at his best in "Canto Della Terra", "Sogno" and "Come Un Fiume Tu"; he communicates the words & music with great passion and tenderness, trancending any language barriers. The tune in "Mai Piu' Cosi' Lontano'" is incredibly contagious (it may have something to do with the fact that it shares its background melody with "A Mio Padre", a moving voiced message to Bocelli's father). Sad and sweet, tender and powerful, serious and playful, Sogno is a diverse dreamscape, one that I would do more than, well, dream about (i.e. buy the CD)!

Just once in awhile does music this beautiful make itself known to those of us that are not enthusiastic followers of opera. Listening to "Canto Della Terra" takes my breath away. Bocelli's presentation of this beautiful melody can't help but bring tears to any music lover's eyes. Bravo! This is some of the finest music ever produced, whether true opera critics like it or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Songo Satisfies, June 26, 2000
This review is from: Sogno (Audio CD)
No, this is not traditional Opera. But, Andrea Bocelli let's us "dream" and close our eyes in sheer wonderment. Light some candles...perhaps sip some wine....lean back and exquisitly unwind.

When my two teenage sons noticed a recent olive oil commercial, it was the music, not the food, that widened their eyes....now THAT is saying something!

Bravo Senor Bocelli~

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful ALBUM, something that I will always treasure., November 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sogno (Audio CD)
The songs were soulfully sung highlighting the strong, powerful, and mellow voice of the NEXT GREAT TENOR. The soothing melody of SOGNO and CANTO DELLA TERRA, the haunting music of TREMO E T'AMO, and his stirring duet with Celine Dion (THE PRAYER) are simply magnificent. To me this is by far Andrea Bocelli's BEST album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pseudo-Pavarotti for the tone deaf?, June 2, 2001

As a die-hard Andrea Bocelli fan, I must say (AGAIN) that I'm so sick and tired of the so-called "critics" who keep trashing him on account of his "vocal limitations." Okay, so he doesn't have too much power, but his voice is so much fun to listen to that...no wonder so many Americans have fallen for him, ESPECIALLY with this album! The material despite the intense power a lot of them seem to have is material that DEFINITELY does the man justice. Although I like "Romanza" MUCH BETTER, since THIS is the more classical album, of which (unsurprisingly) 12 used copies are available here (this album sold 10 million plus in US!) and since I prefer his pop side over his classical one, obviously this is the REAL Bocelli.

Additional track comments:

1. Canto Della Terra. Very passionate and VERY ELECTRIFYING love song on which Andrea gives one of his best performances. This song can be listened to over and over and over again at max volume and yet it takes you on a whole new journey through time and space each time. Absolutely amazing!

2. The Prayer. One of the most touching songs I've ever heard, this is Andrea's biggest hit on American radio right now. Céline Dion also gives such an amazing vocal performance that obviously BOTH of them bring me to tears. And the way they sing the bridge in Italian makes me think "More Bocelli duets should be like this." He isn't Pseudo-Pavarotti to me! Yes, I've heard many real opera singers before Bocelli, and I hope to try out others soon such as Russell Watson, but Andrea's no Ricky Martin or Sisqo.

3. The title track. Bocelli sang this on his American Dream concert last year, and it just took my breath away.

4. Mai Più Così Lontano. He once said that this was his favorite out of all the songs he's sung because it reminds him of his father. I humbly agree, because it reminds me of my mother and how much I wish for her to be with my family more often.

Well, that's it for my yin-yang. You might also want to be on the lookout for the Sogno 2-CD set (that has 2 music videos on it) and/or, if you like to buy singles, the 4-track Canto Della Terra CD single. E-mail me at RiveraRealnice25@aol.com if you'd like to know where you can find them.

Until Andrea's next album, it's "time to say goodbye."

Ana, who'll likely never find another like Bocelli

About once a year I find a CD that is worth 10 times what I paid for it; Sogno is that CD for '99. I saw him do "The Prayer" with Celine on TV and needed more so I purchased the CD and found Mr. Bocelli. If "Canto Della Terra" and "Sogno" don't make chills go up and down your spine...well, you should be reading reviews elsewhere. Simply put, Mr. Bocelli takes me with him when he soars!
