Where has this been all my life! I do a lot of gardening and there are a lot of stones that made it difficult and I usually ended up throwing good soil away with the rocks. But no more. With the soil sieve I just fill it with soil, shake it and then throw the remaining stones away and am left with a beautiful pile of clean dirt. (I know-oxymoron) It's fast and kind of fun. My only suggestion would be they make it a little bigger. Don't be misled by "Bonsai". I use it outdoors and I have multiple gardens.

I've had this item for several years now. My wife and I take it with us to Venice, Florida, the Shark Tooth Capitol of the world. Using this sifter in the surf helps sift out the sand beautifully and makes finding fossilized shark teeth a snap. It's stainless steel so it won't rust in the salty water, except for the actual mesh itself, it'll rust if you don't keep it rinsed with fresh water. Its also very sturdy and has never bent or warped digging up 8-10 pounds of wet sand. I've used it off and on for over three years and it works great!

When you compost, the organic material will break down at different rates, so you end up with a pile that's mostly dirt but also contains things like wood that take longer to breakdown. This sieve is a great way to separate the dirt from the other things that are not-dirt-just-yet. I recently composted some leaves that had sat on my pea gravel driveway over the winter. Unfortunately, when I was raking up the leaves, I also raked up a lot of gravel. This sieve comes with three screens, so when I was shifting that compost pile, I choose a screen size that kept the gravel from falling through. Very handy indeed!

If you have a lot of compost, this is not the quickest way to separate the dirty from the not-dirt-just-yet. The reason I gave this item 4 stars and not five is that the walls of the sieve aren't very high which limits the amount of material you can sort through at one time. All-in-all a great product that I would certainly recommend to others.

Trying to build one from scratch is nearly impossible. Now I've got a product good for the rest of my life, and it does what I expect: sift to levels of usefulness, from coarse to fine.

Only a flour sifter would be needed next.

My wife and I bought this to take on our vacation to Venice Beach, Florida, also known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World. We used this sieve to sift sand and shells and found 78 shark teeth. Be aware however that the actual screen is NOT stainless steel, only the body.

The soil sieve set is very easy to use. The different mesh sizes pop in and out easily. The outer stainless steel ring is solid, not flimsy like a spring form pan.

I had purchased some Acadama and Kanuma medium sized soil. The soil was variable in size with some small and some larger pieces. Using the soil sieves, starting with the largest mesh, I was able to get perfectly uniform soil sizes. This is especially important for tiny seedlings and other small bonsai potted plants. Now I sift all of my bonsai soils and separate them into containers, knowing that they are ready to use.

for the money this is the best soil siev out there that you can buy, if your serious about bonsei that is.

I purchased this sieve set to use to sort worm castings from the worms and worm cocoons. The set is not industrial quality by no means, but should be stout enough for most home use. The sieve mesh is perfect for sorting out compost or castings and makes easy work of it if the mixture is not too wet. A big feature to this sieve is that it will fit perfectly into a five gallon bucket so you can process directly into the bucket. I am sure these will come in handy for several other yard jobs around the house.

I looked and looked for a REAL sand sifter to keep my grandson's sandbox cleaned out. It gets sticks, leaves, and heaven knows what else, but the 'toy' sifters were just not cutting it. Thank heaven I came across this quality product that does a great job and is rustproof. I trust buying through Amazon, and the price was very competitive.

The item ordered was received in good time and complete. It seems a little light but still solid. I haven't used it yet but expect to have no problems. I like the large diameter because i'll be pouring into it from a 5 gallon pail.
