I ordered two of these lanterns which arrived promptly. I followed the instructions to switch on, placed them in the bright Hawaiian direct sun (all afternoon) and was disappointed to find one lantern didn't work at all, and the other one had such a weak amount of light that it was only visibly lit if put in absolute pitch darkness. I figured it might need TWO days of charging, so I waited with anticipation the next day...and was met with the same sad results. Not only was the light weak, it stayed on only for about 2 hours. So once the sun went down, the lamp was done working by 8pm. I had bought these hoping to give as a gift, and wanted them charged before gifting. I'm glad I did try them first.
The plus side of this lamp is the beauty of it's shade. I'm returning the non-working one, and I will be looking for a battery operated LED tea light to place the remaining lantern OVER for my tabletop to make a beautiful centerpiece. So sad that this lamp turned out to be so disappointing. I would not recommend this lantern due to the weak performance associated with its high cost.

Someone bought this product as a gift for my husband and myself! It was placed near our pool/outside dining area. EVERYONE who visits loves the Soji Lantern! In turn, when it came time for a unique gift for my parents, we purchased the Soji Solar Lantern. My parents LOVED the gift. We will certainly continue the gift giving with Soji!

Even on a fairly cloudy day, the lantern lights up beautifully at night. Now not a light to read by!!! But lovely moodlighting, so even my crappy city balcony feels like an escape from the world! Love it! Want more! I bought the white with gray floral - just beautifully made and nice to look at even in the day!

these lanterns have the warmest glow! They turn on as soon as it is dark and I get so many compliments when I entertain in the backyard during the summer. I'm happy to have found them on Amazon. Buy these...you won't be disappointed.

Yep, they did that.

And let's make it pretty much the most weather-resistant solar lantern on the market?
Yep, they did that too.

But to save space in the design (and five cents on the included battery), let's make it a single AAA battery.
Yep, they did that as well. FAIL!

And let's put TWO led lights in it, so it'll be unnecessarily bright as lights dies out twice as fast.
Hard to believe, but the went with. Again, FAIL!

A SINGLE AAA BATTERY, ARE YOU KIDDING?

I have about ten solar lanterns, having finished a window lighting project on an enormous house. Every other solar lantern comes with a AA battery that's complete garbage, and Al Gore wants you to know that one of that Common Scold's latest pet peeves is making sure you recycle your batteries. Recycle this one immediately, and buy Sanyo Eneloops. If there's a space for a second battery, you might double the lighting life each night, especially if you live in Las Vegas, El Paso, etc. And, of course charge them up for two or even three days before you switch them on, just to be sure you get the best performance.

AM I PERSONALLY HAPPY WITH THIS THING?

Far too expensive, but after giving up on using it in a window I stuck it over my nonfunctional motion lights on the garage. This glows for perhaps 90 minutes at night, though in the morning it's in the shade. Still quite an aesthetic improvement, so I'm glad I bought it. But still two stars at most.

This solar lantern looks expensive and it IS expensive. BUT! It is a cheesey, flimsy, plastic product that should cost a small fraction of its price of +$42. This cheaply constructed lantern lasted a few days longer than 3 months--it did not come close to lasting even one season.
When I contacted the Seller, I was told to go buy a new solar battery. Removing their useless battery is not a simple feat.
Do NOT PURCHASE this product unless you are happy throwing away your money.
