Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6 This biography details Sojourn er Truth's involvement in the abolition ist movement, the underground rail road, women's rights, and other areas of human rights. The tone is casual, and the text occasionally poses questions to readers. The pen-and-ink illustrations are uninspiring and lifeless, tending to detract from the text. The characteriza tion of Sojourner Truth is adequate, and her saintly and peaceful qualities are emphasized. Readers will obtain a basic understanding of the problems and obstacles which confronted Truth, even though they are not portrayed in powerful or forceful ways. Truth's at tempts to get legislation passed for land grants to blacks are given a fair amount of coverage. A book that is well suited for reports and discussion groups.
