This book has prompted me to talk to my Rabbi more about the Jewish belief of angels and demons, as well as afterlife beliefs.

I couldn't put the novel down! There are so many deep thought moments. I still think about the love of God required to help guide a soul through life and the after world. The characters are so alive and believable, good character development. The turn of events that life throws us that we all have experienced keep the pages turning and the writing real. The ending is suprising and I definately want more from this author. Good writing, good reading and lots to think about.

Just finished the book! Wow. Loved it. Page turner. I could not put it down.. and this from a guy who has 5 kids, multi-tasks at multi-tasking, and works for a large publishing company with about 100 books half read at the side of my bed. This one... I could not put down.

I cried tears of joy at the end and it has been many years since a book brought moisture on the last page...

Outcome of this book for me: fight sin... fight sin... pray...pray... fight sin... for sin can be overcome - and we have guardians to help us....

From the cogs of Olson's compelling imagination comes an account of the war waged on the soul of man by the wolf of souls. Angelic realms whisper to the hearts of men, and fight to protect them against the demons that lure them. This book portrays a character steeped in darkened thoughts, an unlikely priest teetering between vice and deep humility, and a woman with glowing perseverance of soul. I found myself considering the ranks of angels and the mysterious toll houses, even between chapters. With moments of depth, sorrow, and twinges of sarcasm and wit, I was riveted and even chuckled a couple of times. I look forward to seeing more novels from R. Leo Olson....I have my fingers crossed, hoping for a sequel!

One of the petitions in the Divine Liturgy says, "An angel of peace, a faithful guide, a guardian of our souls and bodies, let us ask of the Lord." The petition takes on new depth after reading Olson's first novel. The author does a marvelous job of suggesting how a guardian angel works while all the time respecting an individual's free will. This book pushes one's imagination in a heavenly direction to broaden and deepen that sense of the angelic life that surrounds the throne of God, all of creation, and each individual image-bearer. The book also helps one understand the communal nature of the Christian life, that even while each individual must face death in his or her own way, the bonds of love are able to surmount even death. I hope Olson continues writing, not just additional books that may be in this series, but novels that branch out to examine other aspects of the Christian life and struggle with the same care and sensitivity shown here.

I finished this book in about two weeks, it started off slow and I wondered if I would like the style of writing. The book moves from common conversation to angels speaking in bible verses and teachings from the church. It took a few chapters to get use to it but it was well worth sticking with. The book progressed and once I got into the flow I didn't want to put it down. I felt the action and had a feeling of concern for the Christopoulos family as the plot unfolded. I am very interested in religious history and this book gave me doses of it as I read. I look forward to the next edition of Sojourning with Angels.

Hard to believe this is R. Leo Olson's first novel! It was positively gripping! Whenever I had to take a break I thought of the characters constantly, wondering what might happen next. Being Jewish, I was a little nervous about the heavy religious theme, but I have to say it was totally non offensive and very well thought out. I grew up fundamental Christian but later converted to conservative Judaism. I typically shy away from anything with a Christian feel, but since a friend recommended this book to me I tried it.
Some of the themes were familiar from my childhood but others were very new and interesting. There are big nods to Jewish angelology, some of which I was unaware of. This book has prompted me to talk to my Rabbi more about the Jewish belief of angels and demons, as well as afterlife beliefs. And it was a very good reminder that sin is very ugly (regardless of your religion) and just what is viewed as sin. This book was not preachy about Eastern Orthodoxy at all. Instead, I enjoyed all of the information on a piece of their beliefs.
I will be looking forward to anything else written by this author!
