5.0 out of 5 stars A GROWING LOVE AFFAIR, November 18, 2003
By
James C Smith (MI United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Sol Goode (DVD)
I bought this on a whim. Being a Jamie Kennedy fan, I learned that he was in it. No one had it to rent, so I bought it taking the chance it'd be a clinker. The first time through I thought it was cute. The second time through I really started to like it. The third time through, I became convinced I loved it. So funny and so well done. The strength of the movie is depicted on the cover art: a multitude of well-developed characters, and no, that's not a pun on the clevage. One thing to take notice of and appreciate are the non-stop superb facial expressions throughout. It also tickles me that everytime something sneaky is about to take place, you hear that catchy, but subtle little reoccuring theme song that simply smirks at you.

Ironically for me, Kennedy played a rather small role, but a memorable one nonetheless, and one that he nails as the doormat for a witch of a fiancee and a pain of a boss.

Again, the strength of this flick is in all the great characters that orbit around the life of Mr. Sol Goode (pronounced "good"). "Ss-ol Goode, ay? Did you think of that all on your own?".

Buy it, borrow it, or rent it, but give this movie a chance!

3.0 out of 5 stars Bashful's DVD Summary #037, February 6, 2004
By
This review is from: Sol Goode (DVD)
Best:

1) It has a few hilariously bawdy moments.
2) You get to see the sexy (yet non-nude) body parts of Tori Spelling, Natasha Gregson-Wagner and Katharine Towne (although Carmen Electra shows nothing).
3) There's a director/actors commentary track and some funny deleted scenes.

Worst:

1) The boy-girl friendship thing, where they awkwardly date other people before finally considering each other, is SO tired. The audience knows where the movie is going 5 minutes into the action.
2) It was too much like every high-school/frat-party/losers-on-a-road trip movie ever made - except it wasn't all that funny. Sol becomes an adult only in the last 5 minutes of the movie and THEN only to justify that last kiss with his new girlfriend.

Recomendation:

Get this one cheap (used) or rent it instead of paying full retail. It's funny, sexy and outrageous - but not enough of either to make this one memorable as a great comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sol Goode, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Sol Goode (DVD)
HAHAHA This is a very funny movie. These people are so conseeded and just so funny. Some of the funniest parts are at the end during the credits, where they show funny moments cut out of the movie. Laughing fits, and just plain crazy moments making the movie.
One of my favorite actors, Jared Leto cracks me up in this movie.
He is Co-Producer of this movie, and doesn't even give himself any credit.
Although just a coupld of short scenes, just enough to make you pee yourself with laughter. He's just too funny.
All the actors are fantastic in this movie. Just way too hilarious.

A young named Sol Goode goes through his young life trying to be what he isn't. He is always auditioning for movie parts that he is not qualified for. Everyone wants a high paying job, and not having much to do to earn their money.
He can't hold a job, a girl friend, and certainly never has money to pay his rent. He finally relized who he really is and accepts his destiny.
In the end, it all comes together for him, but before going through his own struggles.
His father, played by the very talented Robert Wagner, will not gieve his son a red cent to help him out, but rather he makes his son, Sol, find his way on his own. It's to teach him that what he is supposed to be doing in life is right in front of him. He just needs to discover it on his own, and learn to respect himself for WHO he really is. He does!
But he does learn that where he actually comes from is where he belongs, and it's ok to be yourself.
EXCELLANT MOVIE, ANOTHER 5* MOVIE IN MY OPINION.
Highly recommended. I believe it's going out of print/circulation, so get it now. You'll love it if you love to laugh.
