5.0 out of 5 stars A GROWING LOVE AFFAIR
I bought this on a whim. Being a Jamie Kennedy fan, I learned that he was in it. No one had it to rent, so I bought it taking the chance it'd be a clinker. The first time through I thought it was cute. The second time through I really started to like it. The third time through, I became convinced I loved it. So funny and so well done. 3.0 out of 5 stars Bashful's DVD Summary #037
Best:

1) It has a few hilariously bawdy moments.
2) You get to see the sexy (yet non-nude) body parts of Tori Spelling, Natasha Gregson-Wagner and Katharine Towne (although Carmen Electra shows nothing).
3) There's a director/actors commentary track and some funny deleted scenes.

The strength of the movie is depicted on the cover art: a multitude of well-developed characters, and no, that's not a pun on the clevage. One thing to take notice of and appreciate are the non-stop superb facial expressions throughout. It also tickles me that everytime something sneaky is about to take place, you hear that catchy, but subtle little reoccuring theme song that simply smirks at you.

Ironically for me, Kennedy played a rather small role, but a memorable one nonetheless, and one that he nails as the doormat for a witch of a fiancee and a pain of a boss.

Again, the strength of this flick is in all the great characters that orbit around the life of Mr. Sol Goode (pronounced "good"). "Ss-ol Goode, ay? Did you think of that all on your own?".

Buy it, borrow it, or rent it, but give this movie a chance!

2) You get to see the sexy (yet non-nude) body parts of Tori Spelling, Natasha Gregson-Wagner and Katharine Towne (although Carmen Electra shows nothing).
3) There's a director/actors commentary track and some funny deleted scenes.

Worst:

1) The boy-girl friendship thing, where they awkwardly date other people before finally considering each other, is SO tired. The audience knows where the movie is going 5 minutes into the action.
2) It was too much like every high-school/frat-party/losers-on-a-road trip movie ever made - except it wasn't all that funny. Sol becomes an adult only in the last 5 minutes of the movie and THEN only to justify that last kiss with his new girlfriend.

Recomendation:

Get this one cheap (used) or rent it instead of paying full retail. It's funny, sexy and outrageous - but not enough of either to make this one memorable as a great comedy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sol Goode, March 8, 2007
This review is from: Sol Goode (DVD)
HAHAHA This is a very funny movie. These people are so conseeded and just so funny. Some of the funniest parts are at the end during the credits, where they show funny moments cut out of the movie. Laughing fits, and just plain crazy moments making the movie.
One of my favorite actors, Jared Leto cracks me up in this movie.
He is Co-Producer of this movie, and doesn't even give himself any credit.
Although just a coupld of short scenes, just enough to make you pee yourself with laughter. He's just too funny.
All the actors are fantastic in this movie. Just way too hilarious.

A young named Sol Goode goes through his young life trying to be what he isn't. He is always auditioning for movie parts that he is not qualified for. Everyone wants a high paying job, and not having much to do to earn their money.
He can't hold a job, a girl friend, and certainly never has money to pay his rent. He finally relized who he really is and accepts his destiny.
In the end, it all comes together for him, but before going through his own struggles.
His father, played by the very talented Robert Wagner, will not gieve his son a red cent to help him out, but rather he makes his son, Sol, find his way on his own. It's to teach him that what he is supposed to be doing in life is right in front of him. He just needs to discover it on his own, and learn to respect himself for WHO he really is. He does!
But he does learn that where he actually comes from is where he belongs, and it's ok to be yourself.
EXCELLANT MOVIE, ANOTHER 5* MOVIE IN MY OPINION.
Highly recommended. I believe it's going out of print/circulation, so get it now. You'll love it if you love to laugh.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funny..., June 23, 2004

Suspend your filter for old-hand romance comedy genre tricks and this movie will have you rolling on the floor laughing. It's as sharp a portrayal of the LA Singles TwentySomething scene in 2000 as Swingers was for 1995. Laughing so hard at unexpected moments (try the DELETED SCENES section) made me giggle for days after. Why this movie wasn't better promoted is beyond me... I had to hear about it from a friend. I suspect SOL GOODE will go on to cult favorite status. Until then it's one of the best kept comedy secrets.

I love this movie. Although it didnt get newhere near enough press as it shouldve. It was very funny, very enjoyable 2 watch, and i loved the cast and the actors did very well in their roles. Balthazar Getty (Sol) was made for this role, he was awesome. Another reason I love this movie was because the first time i saw it was the night i got with some girl....but she eventually dumped me...hahaha. But im not gonna get into that. This movie is great, time after time. Ive seen it like, 5 times and its still funny. I would definitely recommend anybody to buy this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars a cast of unforgettable characters!, October 9, 2003
This review is from: SOL GOODE (DVD)
This is a gem of a film. Sol Goode is a low-achieving actor and womanizer in California surrounded by a cavalcade of richly drawn characters. Jamie Kennedy is hilarious as his nebbish and girlfriend (played so wonderfully and unapologeticly by the daughter of Natalie Wood)-whipped room mate, who is also demeaned in hilarious fashion by his arrogant and mean boss played by SNL's Sheri Oteri (Her performance is jerkdom at its best and she gets the best lines and has a dog that she calls "The Fonz"). Only the loud music throughout the film is annoying, which is symtomatic of many American films these days. Nevertheless it is hilarious!!

...goofy, silly, but smart comedies that I've seen in a long time. The writing is excellent. The flow is solid. Just a perfectly absurd hour-and-a-half, along with a cute little love story that I'm sure lots of people could relate to. It's a shame this one isn't a lot bigger, but in a way it's good because we can all say we have a gem no one else knows.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great and funny movie!, March 14, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sol Goode (DVD)
I first saw this movie on the WB last summer and I thought it was hillarious. I have been waiting for the day this movie came out (it took 8 months!)and it was worth the wait! Wait'll you see the DVD! It as more hillarious than when I first saw it on the WB! It has a pretty predictable story but the characters are great and funny. It's a story about a guy that can get any girl, but doesn't realize the one for him might be right in front of him. And enter in all the comical stuff, and that makes a funny movie. Go buy it. You'll laugh your A#$ off! Guaranteed!

This was the funniest movie I have seen in a long time. The cast was genius! Any time you can mix hilarity with a good love story ala John Hughes, that's good enough for me!

5.0 out of 5 stars A CULT CLASSIC, July 12, 2004

I can't believe it took me this long to find such a gem. Where did this flick come from and why wasn't it in theatres? Sol Goode blows away any of these romanic comedies that are getting released today. Lions Gate sure dropped the ball on this one. Anyway, if you are lucky enough to come across this review, run and don't walk to get a copy, you will thank me later. I thought the movie was absolutely hysterical. So many one liners I don't know where to start.
