5.0 out of 5 stars One of her two very best albums, September 12, 2001
This review is from: Sol Da Liberdade (Audio CD)
All of her albums her fun, but I'd rate this and "Feijao com Arroz" as the two best. Buy either one as a starter in Daniela Mercury. Make sure you have both if you're wanting her best stuff.

Like "Feijao com Arroz," this album is fun, enjoyable, spirited Bahia pop all the way through.

5.0 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE MUSIC, August 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sol Da Liberdade (Audio CD)
This is one of the best CDs I have bought so far, filled with hauting music that really gives energy to the spirit. Every song has perfect arrangements, reflecting the richness and beauty of Brazilian music. Best of all, Daniela Mercury's voice gives a sense of strength and happiness. If anyone would like a taste of real Brazilian music, purchase this awsome CD. She will also be in concert Sept. 15, 2000 in Washington, D.C. giving a powerful show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daniela is AMAZING!!, September 7, 2000

This review is from: Sol Da Liberdade (Audio CD)
Clever arrangements, exquisite vocal stylings, and lots of just excellently performed music makes this CD one of the best on the market --- Brazilian or otherwise!

Daniela Mercury's unique character is displayed in the selections for this project; ranging from the sheer joy and celebration of "Itapua @no 2000" to the haunting mystique of "Sou Voce`" to the proud and conscious "Ile Perola Negra" and "Axe, Axe."

This is a MUST for your collection --- no matter what kind of music you like!

This Cd is pure genius. Probably the best way to start your Daniela collection. This is how I got into Brazilian music, and the world is still catching up to this breathtaking production. This is one of my all-time favorite CDs. When I master my own music, I bring this one along to compare levels & frequencies, cuz it's near perfect. Daniela is a beauty with an even more beautiful voice. Folks, this is what music is all about!

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant album, June 8, 2001

It took me a long time to buy this CD because I was fraid I would not like it, but I'm happy to say I was wrong! I think this is an excellent album. As you can hear when you listen to the tracks, some of the songs are very up-tempo (e.g. track 5) and difficult to sit still to. I personally prefer the more laid-back songs (but still great to dance to), such as track 1 and 3. The rest of the CD is similar to the songs you can listen to, although I would like to say a bit more about a few other songs. Dara sounds very much like a song coming from Africa (not surprisingly, since Bahia has strong links with this continent), although I can't recall the name of this style. One of the most beautiful tracks in the jazzy Sou Voce, which fits perfectly with her voice. Crenca A Fe, finally, is a very typical song for Bahia (with the percussion not unlike Olodum).

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this CD!!!, January 28, 2004

This review is from: Sol Da Liberdade (Audio CD)
This is the best cd I've listened to in years...and I have a LOT of cds from almost every genre except country music. If you love to dance and shake your groove thang and you appreciate rhythmic music - soca, african, brazilian, and carribean music -you'll absolutely love this cd. Most of the songs are in spanish/portugese and even though I don't speak any of these languages, I would still count this as one of my best buys. There's no filler, unlike 90% of albums out there now. There's one track (I think #8) that has some Yoruba, so if you understand that language (I do!), it'll be a bright light in the misdt of the fog :) It was for me. I still loved the track even before I realized that what I was listening to was in Yoruba. Get this cd now! You can dance and/or work out to most of the tracks. It's a feel good pick-me-up cd. Kudos to Daniela Mercury!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brazilian Mix of Everything!, July 22, 2001

I listened to this album, and I was delighted there was something to dance to, something to sing to, a bit of Axe, a bit of contemporary, etc. everything under the sun was in this CD! The great music is subordinate to her great voice. Though the music is great, buy this CD for Daniela's sensational voice also! Along with Ivete Sangalo, Daniela is one of Brasil's absolute BEST!

Daniela does it again with Sol Da Liberdade! Her music is hypnotic, energetic and I don't even speak the language. See her live at the Hollybowl on Sept 10 and you'll see why she is Brazil "Queen of Samba Regae"
