Mixed Results, But Good CD,

This CD was a little bit of a disappointment for me. It sounds like she is trying to cross into the Spanish speaking market. Working with Emilio Estefan is a blessing for most Latin artists. His midas touch didn't rub off as well on Sol Da Liberdade. One of the problems with this album is that it has too many producers and collaboraters. As the saying goes, "Too many cooks spoil the broth." Daniela Mercury has a very distinctive and lovely singing style that is complemented with axe and samba. Sol Da Liberade isn't a bad CD, but it isn't as consistent like the funky Electrica. The album began on a promising note with the title track. The whistles on "Groove De La Bahiana" were annoying and I associated them with catcalls. "Perola Negra" is a wonderful tribute to Afro Brazilians, but the song needed more edge. "Santa Elena" is well put together story that would make an [butt] kicking video. The song itself is well arranged. "Axe, Axe" would be an even better song live. "Itapua @No 2000" is a bit hard to understand lyrically. I am not that fluent in Portuguese. I use my Spanish to understand Portuguese. "Sou Voce" is a very lovely bossa nova song. In this song, Daniela's voice sounds very smoky, yet light and hits all the right notes. "Dara" is a light, delicate and beautiful song. "Funk Da Decepcao" is a good listen, but it needs more funk (no pun intended). "So No Balanco Do Mar" has really strong lyrics and the song arrangement is impressive. The music itself is too glosed over and could be better. "Viagem" has a nostalgic, romantic feel. Everything about this song is wonderful. "De Tanto Amor" is a nice sad song. The Spanish lyrics in this song are a bit choppy, but I won't hold it against her because her singing makes up for it. "Crencia Y Fe" is similar to "Ile Perola Negra" in the lyrics, but "Creencia" is a good laid back song. Daniela does better with uptempo songs. I hope she sings more fast paced and less slicked over songs on her next album.

A pearl of the brazilian music,

This is a great CD that brings back Daniela Mercury, to the MPB music. Four years after her last CD, Feijão Com Arroz, she returns with a great CD that express her talent, with two nice musics, Ilê Pérola Negra, (that received the Best Axé Video Clip Award at the Video Music Awards - 2000 on MTV Brazil), and Crença e Fé produced by Emílio Stefan Jr, the same that produces Gloria Stefan and Ricky Martin. In this CD, Daniela mixed new rythims with her own Axé style, like in Itapuã @no 2000 made with Fernanda Abreu. In fact this CD is a pearl of the brazilian music

This is the first cd of Daniela Mercury I have bought. It really is a great cd. She has a beautiful voice and each track is has its own style. I am hooked! I would recommend this cd to anyone that is interested in Brazilian popular music, and also to anyone that loves the portuguese language.

Sol Da Liberdade,

I am a Puerto Rican female in my early 40s and live in the New York Metropolitan area. While on vacation in Miami in April of 2001, I had the good fortune of having walked into to a tiny Brazilian music store where I purchased this CD. And that was the beginning of my musical obsession with Daniela Mercury. I now own three of her CD and plan to continue investing in her music. Her music lifts up my spirits no matter how unmotivated I'm feeling and as a consequence, I listen to her just about every day. Since I speak Spanish fluently, I am able to understand Brazilian Portuguese and can now sing all of her songs as if I were a Brazilian. I also had the divine good fortune of seeing Daniela perform at the Beacon Theatre on August 10, 2001 and was blowned away by her performance. She sang just about every song on this CD and the audience never sat down the whole time she was on stage. It has been a real blessing for me to have discover this incredibly talented songstress and I have become her #1 Fan. I would love to be able to be placed on a mailing list to receive any information on Daniela Mercury future events.

I recently saw a Daniela Mercury video on World Link TV and was hooked immediately. I now own three of her CDs and want more more more. At recently dinner party we had in Houston, I shared these songs with a percusionist who performs with the Houston Ballet. He loved it as much as I do and other people felt the same. I now need a daily fix of Daniela to brighten my day. I would highly recommend the last 3 or 4 of her lastest CDs. I wish there was a DVD of her videos available as well.
