I'm not sure why this mailbox receives high reviews. In my opinion, it's pretty rinky dink. From the manufacturer's description, I definitely expected this to be more substantial. The steel is actually quite thin, and the hinges are made of the same grade of steel and are not reinforced. So basically, over time, the hinge will bend downward, and the door will fall. We ordered this, and returned it immediately. Not only is the quality pretty subpar, it arrived with zero packing material in the box, so it was dented in several places.

Solar (or their parent company) pretty much makes most mailboxes out there. So, if you're able, I'd suggest going to a local store like Home Depot or Lowe's and checking out the selection there so that you can see and feel the mailboxes first-hand. We ultimately bought another Solar mailbox that is about the same size as this (slightly smaller), but which is of much higher quality Solar TB1B Group Standard Size Steel -inchTuff Body-inch Rural Mailbox, Black. It was a lot more expensive than this one, but I guarantee the thing will last for 50 years! FYI - we bought it from Home Depot and, believe it or not, it was $30 less than Amazon's price. Definitely the way to go.

This is a well made mailbox and very roomy inside as well.
You can also add a beautiful plaque reflector with your numbers
for just a few dollars more, I did and it really looks nice, especially
at night when the car lights reflect off it to see your numbers in the dark.

The first one we got was badly dented. Amazon replaced it with no charge to us. The second one wasn't dented, but the door doesn't close properly. I'm not going to return it, I'll just live with it. My advice: Get it from your local hardware store. It will cost less, and if something is wrong, you won't have the hassle.

I bought this mailbox on Amazon because it was much less expensive then similar boxes in my town. I wanted a plain white box to pain and to replace our ancient wooden box. This one fit the bill. I read the reviews ahead of time and some where positive and some negative saying it was small, cheap and thin. It is exactly what I expected it to be. An average size plain mailbox. If your not looking for frills and a decent price in a box this is the one for you.

Great mail box... needs flat base to mount and the edge isn't much below the floor of the mailbox. Had to adjust the pole supports to almost flush with top of pole in order for screws to mount. Would buy again.

This mailbox is sturdy it appears that it will last a long time. I live in a new subdivision that mandates the solar mailboxes all my neighbors have a similar mailbox. The look and curb appeal of the solar mailboxes is outstanding.

I live in a rural community. Three mailboxes stood on a post. They were knocked down by a driver. I ordered three matching ones for myself and my neighbors. Two came in good condition in one Amazon box. The other came in it is own Amazon box. The third is already dented on the end and has glue on it. The outside of the cardboard box was glued shut and the mailbox door doesn't quite close right. This was not the Amazon box this was the mailbox box cardboard box itself. This happened PRE shipping!! They knowingly put a damaged mailbox in a box, hot glue gunned it shut, and shipped it off. There was even dripped on hot glue on the mailbox!!!The back is dented and the door is off. Seeing as I am having to drive to the post office I will not be returning this. I don't have time to return and deal with it. I want my mail. I will have to live with it. I will give my neighbors the good box and take the bad one for myself. But I am irritated that it was obviously sent from the company damaged. Two are fine. One is not. Be careful -- I guess you have a 66% chance of getting a decent one.

Easy to install, simple and understated, seems sturdy, the latch on the door is very "tight" and you will most likely have to adjust or your mail delivery person may not be too happy with you. great price as well.

Box is made of steel, you couldn't ask for a better box. The flag is attached with a plastic base and pin which is easily removed. I'm hoping some kid doesn't notice and take it. Was wishing it was a bolt and nut instead. I'll probably try and use a bolt and nut somehow.

This box is pretty much as description. It came in nice shiny black coating inside and out. Red handle works well on the side; it's just a real thin flag though. The latch connection on the front door is tough to close, although i am sure once it is worked through it will be fine. The front door is thin too. It's basically a thin steel mailbox. All in all, it does the job...if you are looking for a sturdier box though, this one definitely is not it.

I love using amazon to purchase my items. Amazon direct came one day earlier than even the earliest shipping date they gave me! Very impressive!!! I will always be looking to use them first whenever available on the items i purchase from now on!!! Excellent service!!! :)
