Solar Lamp Post Light,
This review is from: Solar Lamp Post Light - Coach Light
The post for my gas lamp rusted out and I wanted to "go Green" and save some money on my gas bill with a solar powered model. I looked at other models online and was about to get the GamaSonic GS-94F for about $129. I noticed this model on Amazon for $119. I was able to pick one up that looks identical to this one at Menards for about $69! I got an 80" aluminum post ($29... on clearance for $2 at Lowes) and after some grunt work to remove the old cement embedded post, had the new post installed in fresh cement and plumb. The next morning I installed the lamp. (Be sure to turn it on!) It provides about as much light as my two mantel gas lantern, so I am very happy so far. Has 3 AA rechargeable batteries included (has space for 6?) Not sure about the bracket on the Amazon model, there was no such bracket in my box. The small set screws used to secure to the post barely had enough space to tighten so I drilled out and tapped 3 holes in the post and it is now very secure. One of the heads of the two screws holding the lid on was loose from the shaft. (Hence 4 and not 5 stars.) Not sure why Home Depot and Lowes do not carry solar post lamps. (They all have solar landscape lights.) Menards had three models to choose from in the "Enchanted Garden" brand. I would urge you to consider going solar! My neighbor will likely get one. He has his gas turned of to save $$, There should be a tax credit for this device!

Solar Lamp Post Light Not Very Bright,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Solar Lamp Post Light - Coach Light
I purchased this item in the hope of not having to have my yard dug up to replace a broken electrical line that has been there since the house was built over 60 years ago. Plus, I wanted to go green with energy use. I wanted a lamp that had enough brightness and would provide sufficient security on a darkly lit street. The brightness is suboptimal at best and only lasts 4-5 hours. The on/off switch is INSIDE. So, you have to take the unit apart to get to the switch. This is a very inconvenient feature. I am highly considering getting the electrician to install the electrical line.

Good solar post,

Overall this is a good product. I used it to replace an electric post light that did not work due to underground wiring issues. It gives off adequate light, just don't expect it to light up the entire front yard. If you get a full day of sunlight, the light will stay lit all night, even in the winter. On cloudy days, you will only get 3 to 4 hours of light. Thanks to the other reviewer who noted that these were available at Menards, I ending up buying from there for $70. The only improvement I recommend is better fastners to mount the light to the post - the 3 tiny set screws included are pathetic. I drilled holes in the post and secured it with sheetmetal screws.

This lamp post solar powered light replaced a gas lantern which had been at our front walk for over 30 years. It is extremely attractive and gives a pleasing light for our walkway. We are very pleased with its ease of installation and thrifty cost of operation. Bright sunlight keeps the rechargeable batteries at peak performance.

I was excited when I opened the light and found four compartments for batteries. Unfortunately, it has 2 1/2 compartments that have no contacts so it only holds three batteries. It is not very bright but it does mark the end of the driveway.

Purchased light to put on old lamp post at driveway. Looks very nice and gets plenty of sun so the light stays on for a long time. I say it needs improvement because the light is not very bright. If it were 15 watts brighter I would give 4 stars and if the attachment screws were not cheesy then 5 stars. Had to drill out screw holes and put better screws for attaching to the post. I am pleased with my purchase though...

The style of this light looks good on my black lamp post, but I was a little taken back by the blue light that radiates from the unit at night. It's like those really bright blueish headlights. It looks so out of place near my incandescent lights at the front and back door. Maybe if they weren't so close it wouldn't look so noticeably different. I also think that is par for the course when getting solar lights like this. Just be aware before you purchase that the light is bright and blueish/white.

Great price. Energy efficient. Simple assembly. Cute and cozy lighting option for patio or deck.
Would definitely recommend to others.

I should have followed the advice of a previous reviewer. The light was not meant to be used on a post for the following reasons: The screws are small and unable to give proper support. I had to drill larger holes and use larger screws. The light is very very dim and of little use at night. The on and off switch is on the inside so in order to turn the light off to charge the batteries you have to tske off the top each time. It makes a nice daytime appearance but forget it at night. Don't waste your money wait until they develop a better all around light.

Just as described by others.
Works right out of the box after 1 charge period - but not that bright. Usually shines through most of the night, but is always out when I wake the next morning. When it is on it puts out enough light to see things if you stop and look, but is not bright enough to really light the area around it. (more like mood or ambiance lighting). A lot cheaper than others that put out the same light though! |
