A Scientific Page-Turner!,
By Sherry (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Solar Rain (Paperback)
Solar Rain is well researched, scientific, educational and informative. The color photos will take your breath away and the plentiful charts and graphs are easily understood. This complex subject has been amazingly simplified so even the most "unscientific" among us can understand this book. If you've had record-breaking, bizarre weather in your area of the world (and who hasn't), then Solar Rain is a must read that will become a treasured reference book. It is more than merely well written, it is absolutely engrossing and entertaining. Solar Rain reads like a mystery novel - it is a fast paced, page turner!

The author, Mitch Battros, is a fascinating man. He is first and foremost a scientist. But he is also a student of ancient cultures, in particular, that of the ancient Mayans. Most people think of any ancient culture as being primitive and perhaps barbaric, and therefore we have little to learn from them other than to satisfy our curiosity. But this is not necessarily true. The ancient Mayans understood fairly advanced astronomy. We know that they factored the solar precession into their architecture and their calendar. This alone takes advanced skills at observation over the course of centuries, and therefore it implies accurate record keeping as well as sufficient math skills to calculate accurate long-range predictions of the sun's movements with respect to earth.
In the scientific realm, Mitch has done some groundbreaking work in stating the causal relationship between the events and cycles which occur on the sun and weather, climate patterns and natural disasters that occur on earth as a direct result. While Mitch hasn't been able to quantify these effects by say, developing an equation that might translate unknowns to knowns, his contribution is still a significant step forward in the progress of humanity. He is the first in modern history to state a causal relationship of such a significant magnitude. Since making this connection, he has enjoyed watching as cutting edge information continues to come along and bear him out. Mitch has also taken this a step further and worked to draw connections to what we know of the sun-earth relationship to the Mayan calendar, which ends 10/28/2011 or 12/21/2012, depending upon whose calculations you believe. Is something going to happen around this time frame? Mitch believes that the ancient Mayans understood the solar cycles better than we do today, and that we are likely headed for interesting times just around the corner. It could be a purification/upliftment of humanity or it could be cataclysmic, but in any event, the sun will play a major role in whatever comes about. Keep in mind that this is not based on psychic impressions a la Nostradamus, this is based upon science, although granted it is a field that is not yet well understood as it is still in its infancy. Mitch's causal sequence goes like this: sunspots cause solar flares and CME's (coronal mass ejections), which if directed toward earth, hit our magnetosphere and disrupt our ocean and jet stream currents. These disruptions in turn result in what we call extreme weather, e.g. freak storms such as hurricanes, tornados, flood and drought, which may cause severe damage. These solar flares and CME's have other effects as well. They can severely disrupt our power grid, and this has been proven conclusively; and they can also effect human moods (for better or for worse) and physiology (e.g. heartbeat irregularities, nervous conditions, etc.). Time has already shown Mitch to be correct about his basic causal sequence. If time also proves Mitch correct that there is something major in the pipeline for humanity around the 2011/2012 timeframe, then I think Mitch's book and his life's work will go down as some of the most significant groundbreaking work of our time. How many of us can say that we are making real contributions to the cutting edge of human understanding? Not many. And what type of personality would you expect such a man to have? Perhaps a college professor, egghead kind of guy? Mitch is a Harley riding, freedom-loving adventure seeker. I also didn't get the impression from reading Solar Rain, that Mitch is a `doom and gloomer'. The changes which may take place soon will not necessarily be all bad. Only time will tell. Although it is an important work, Solar Rain is not always the easiest or most enthralling read. This is probably not a book that will absorb you so that you won't want to put it down. I found that it could have used another proof read or two in order to make it more readable. The chapter on global warming was brutal reading, but I plodded along because it is important to understand that this Al Gore man-made global warming phenomena is a load of crap. There have been cycles of warming and cooling since long before man's appearance on earth, and there probably will be long after we're gone. This is due to cycles that occur in the sun, which is the source of light and heat and life itself in our solar system. In comparison to these solar cycles, any manmade contributions to global warming and/or cooling are miniscule. However, Mitch does concede to the environmentalists that we were damaging the o-zone, and that our measures to curtail this damage have begun to work. This book may not be the easiest read, but it is not written only for those with doctorates in science. It is accessible to the layman who is sufficiently educated and intellectually curious to care and take the time to expand his/her horizons. I highly recommend this book. I rate the quality of the information as 5 stars; while I give 3 stars to the experience of reading it, for a total of 4 stars. It is fascinating to know that much of what Mitch has come to learn is becoming accepted in scientific circles through peer review. I think Mitch's basic causal sequence has been proven beyond doubt. But what is most fascinating of all is Mitch's attempt to connect this knowledge to the ancient Mayans. What did our ancestors know that we have lost? And how does all this tie in with what is about to happen just around the corner? 2011/2012 is not a long ways off. But you still have plenty of time to read the book. Then you can watch what unfolds from the viewpoint of the fascinated, well-informed observer.

Great Information, too much fluff,
By
This review is from: Solar Rain (Paperback)
The Book "Solar Rain ", By Mitch Battros is an interesting read. The science brought forth and correlated with historical records can lead one to put weight in his conclusions. The message is well worth consideration. Even though the premises for the book are well worth continued investigation I feel the book is poorly written. It seems to be more of a collection of past posting of his own work. Some of the chapters appear to be revisits of previous chapters and points with many implied "I told you so's". If he wishes to recieve greater scientific respect for his work he may wish to consider more science and less fluff and repetition.

***** A Five-Star Book About Our Own Star's Future Behavior *****,

This review is from: Solar Rain (Paperback)
An authentic scientific work of paramount importance to understanding Solar Cycle 24 and its earth-changing events. Indeed we have entered forcefully now in the Spring 2008 into what I, too, have defined as a season of our Sun's chaos cycles; but this series of planetary cleansings and purifications from earthquakes, tidal waves, volcanic eruptions and wild weather swings from hot-to-cold are in fact leading to a new world order beyond our wildest imagination in era-2012. Get this book and be ahead of the learning curve as it is a horse race to the end; the Four Horsemen of the Christian-Egyptian-Mayan apocalypse that invoke the synchronization of Sirius-Earth through the lens of our Sun and ultimately the opening of our third eye into the Fifth Dimension of the aliens, angels, and gods that created us and our world in Zep Tepi -- The First Time! Dr. John Jay Harper is author of Science of Soul: The End-Time Solar Cycle of Chaos in 2012 A.D. and Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century.
