doesn't cut it,
This review is from: Solar battery / charger (i101) - 1250mAh rechargeable polymer solar battery (charger) for cell-phone, mp3 player, media player. With 6 USB adapters (Toy)
again, great idea; poorly implemented. charged it up via an AC outlet then tried to test it on my Nokia N95. all my phone did was say, "not charging". then when plugging it back up, the LED failed to light up to show that it was charging, so i think it's broken.
i'm going to look into getting a Brunton.

I tried a number of different devices on this from cell phone to bluetooth headphones to iPod and really couldn't get it to charge much at all. Maybe it was user error, but I just could not get it to work... Oh, well...

This is really good. The only complaint i have is that it feels a little cheap when you hold it, and you can feel stuff rattling around inside, but otherwise a really great product. This also includes a little led flash light. You can get your device to charge off of this for a while if it is in the sun. It has saved me a few times.

The favorable reviews of this product must be planted and fictitious. What arrives is a disappointment even before it is out of its packaging; a tiny little thing, far smaller than what one would reasonably expect for a solar charger. You look at it and wonder how something with such a small surface area could collect any solar power.
And then you get it out of the packaging and realize how lightweight and cheap the product is. You're supposed to charge the thing several times using the wall charger before charging using the sun; it was plugged in for hours on end and the charging light never went off. From what I could tell, out of the five or six included tips, only one tip was compatible with any of the devices I need to charge, Droid, Creative Labs mp3 player, and blackberry. I plugged it into my mp3 player, which immediately registered as charging. For about 5 minutes and then the charger was drained. Charged it again for hours with the wall charger, tried it agaqin, got a charge of several minutes, and it was drained again. Then the wall charger (really cheap construction) broke. The only good thing about this product is that it was subject to Amazon's return policy. I mailed it back on Saturday (postage paid by Amazon), and on Thursday I got an email indicating the return had been received.

A friend (who purchased this item for me via Amazon.com, by the way) gave me this gadget for my birthday. To make a long story short, it does nothing it is supposed to. I am unable to charge the battery from AC or sunlight - the plugs do not fit my Nokia phone nor a friend's Samsung. All it does is to turn on a blue led when exposed to the sunlight. That is all. Either my product was sold broken, which I doubt, or it is a scam. I am really disappointed.

I must admit after reading some of the reviews I was alittle worried. But after having received my solar charger and putting it to the test I give it a rave review. Please make sure that you fully read the directions when using your cell phone or Ipod with this. There are several different settings to adapt to cell phones, Ipods etc. Also fully charge it with the wall adapter first 3 times. Don't worry if the light stays red past eight hours, I promise you it is charging and will turn green there after.

I purchased this at the same time I bought the Portable Hybrid Solar Charger for Blackberry, iPhone, Nokia, etc. I wanted a device that would stand up to some abuse and still work - my son is studying in India and seems to be having trouble keeping his Blackberry charged.
This unit is much better made than the other one, but has half the solar cell surfaceThe instructions are sparse - barely adequate. When charging on mains the blue led flashes brightly no matter what the charge state, which makes it hard to tell if it's fully charged. It does charge my Blackberry though the USB connector sometimes lost contact if moved. I haven't yet tried charging the phone while the unit is on solar. Overall it's worth the money and I will send it on to India (hope it reaches him!)

Great product at a great price. It will do what it says and is easy to use plus the manufacturer is very responsive to its customers concerns and questions. The fact it charges off AC and solar makes it a very useful charger. The light is convienient to let you know charge status

When "fully charged" it would only charge my Motorola Tundra for a fraction of a minute. After that, right under the sun the blue charging light would come on while it is charging my phone, but after several seconds it would turn the light off and the charging indicator of the Tundra would also go off. Unfortunately this (and ohter like it as well) are not yet as efficient to do what they claim. I'll be returning both units I have.

It is awesome!! I got this last week and like it a lot. I could charge my Verizon PDA phone and even tried it on the the last year's Samsung and my wife's new Nokia - worked fine!
It took about 4 hours to fully charge the built-in Li-Ion battery from the AC. I wanted to start with the Sun, but they recommend you to start with AC for the longer life of battery so i just did it. When the blue light stopped blinking and became steady I went experimenting with anything i could possibly try to charge. So here're the results of my little in-house research... On one charge i101 can normally charge a smaller type of a phone like LG Chocolate or Nokia from 0% to 100%. And it takes about 1-2 hours to do it. After having charged it twice from the AC, I decided to try the real solar charging capabilities and left it under the Sun in my car, on a dashboard. The charging light indicator goes on in a peculiar mode that almost looks like a UV when it is exposed to a direct sunlight. This charger is basically a solar panel attached to the Li-Ion battery - and this design makes it very convenient. You do not have to leave your phone with the charger. You charge the built-in battery and then use it to power the cell-phone whenever and wherever you need it. It works even at night! So after leaving i101 for about 7 hours in the Sun, I powered up my PDA from 10% to 75% in 1 hour. This depleted the solar charger's Li-Ion battery again, but it was impressive that this little piece could charge up my XV6700 so quickly and well. It was already late outside when i was driving home and I know this sounds corny, but the mere fact that solar energy could be stored during the daytime and used later so easily made me feel really good about this small investment :) Thank you guys, great product! |
