Product Description

Color: Black

Imagine a flashlight small enough to attach to your keychain, but with three powerful LED lights, and it never needs batteries! This is the Solar Flashlight Keychain. A small solar panel on the back of the flashlight converts light to energy to power the bright LED lights. No cranking or shaking needed. Even ambient light is enough to keep this tough flashlight shining brightly! On your keychain, always ready! Size 2 ½ " x 1 ½ "x ½ ".

Customer Reviews

Stopped working after 2 weeks.
SV
They did not even pretend to make a connection between the non-rechargeable 3 volt battery and the fake solar panel cell.
DA
The LEDs are aimed into one bright spot and the light lasts a long time before needing a charge.

As observed by other users, this product is a "SCAM"! The solar panel is built into the product, but there are no electrical connections to charge the two CR2032 batteries. But this is a good thing as the batteries are NOT "rechargeable!" Although the solar cell will produce the needed 6V to charge the batteries (In direct full sum), I highly doubt that the claimed of 3hrs use from 30min in bright light is possible. The lights are merely 3 LED's run from 2 CR2025 button cell batteries and will not last you beyond that. This product does not belong on Amazon's Marketplace and the item should be removed from the Amazon Store.

Refer to the review by Samuel Clemens for his take on the product. Better yet look how many 1 Star ratings there are compared to the total reviews. 1/4 of all reviews are bottom of the heap.

The majority of the 4 star or 5 star ratings are from people who have not used their product long enough to find out that it WILL fail on them in the near future.

I have ordered 2 of these flashlights.
One worked right away & the 2nd one did not. Since they are so cheap and not worth sending back I opened a non-working one and found out that:
solar panel is not connected to the circuit board in any way - there are no places to even solder them together, so these are not solar flashlights!
This "solar" panel is just a piece of glass with a grey matrix just like the real solar panels have.
..and, of course, one of the battery contacts was not soldered at all. After fixing it with my soldering iron the light started working.
I took apart my old light that I had for 5-6 years and sure enough solar panel was connected to the circuit board via 2 wires.
So, you have 50/50 chance that they will work at all and 0 chance that they will be recharged by the sunlight.

When I first received these, I thought they were great. I ordered ten and gave them to friends and family. About a week later, a friend of mine told me his stopped working, and I'm an electrical engineer, so I took a look at the internal components. Firstly, the problem was that solder on the battery had already come undone. But to my shock, the "solar panel" wasn't even attached! No wires, no anything. So I got to looking inside some of the others, and it was the same thing, not only that, but some of them had fake solar panels! You can tell the difference because the real solar cells have a metallic color, and the fake ones just look black with white stripes. Don't be fooled by this manufacturer, they are based out of Hong Kong and they are just preying on American consumerism. I do not recommend this product as a "solar powered" flashlight. Now if you want a little flashlight that is really bright and the batteries will eventually die like any regular one, well maybe this is for you.

First let me say this is first review that I have submitted that was really negative and I have reviewed quite a few products. I got about 1 second of light out of this. It won`t charge (it has been in direct sun for 2 days now and will not work. Turned it on out of the package, one small flash of light and poof, off it went. I paid under 2 bucks for this and it took a month to arrive. At 2 bucks these have to be majorly mass produced with no real quality control (my assessment) I will look for a comparable product. Even for 2 bucks I will not try one of these and wait a month again.........

Update, I opened this unit up out of curiosity. It is held together with masking tape! The board is taped down with freakin` masking tape. It also was not connected in any way. It was not destined to work ever, amazing it got out of the factory this way..........

I ordered this on August 3 of this year (2012), and it came in today (August 10,2012). It did not work out of the box, so I put it outside for an hour to charge. I tested it afterward, and it still did not work. I then checked to see if a connection was bad. It was not even securely closed, and the battery was not connected on the negative terminal. To make matters worse, the solar panel had no connections whatsoever and no support electronics on the circuit board. The circuit board was taped to the solar panel, but the only connection posts on the panel were not covered by the tape (meaning the tape, even if it was conductive, could not be part of the circuit). The connections had no wires on them and did not seem to have any corresponding traces on the circuit board, other than a lone patch not connected to anything but that may have been designed to connect a diode to the nearby battery connection. This device also contains no rechargeable batteries, for those of you who might think that this was just a small error. These batteries are CR2025 button cells. The light uses two of these lithium (not to be confused with the rechargeable variety of lithium) batteries shrink wrapped together and then spot welded to two strips of metal, which were in turn NOT connected to the rest of the circuit. I may have just gotten a lemon, but I think that a device missing a diode (the least of the charging circuitry that would be required for a device like this) and any conceivable connection to the solar panel cannot be just a fluke. I do, however, think that the bad battery connection was an accident. By the way, this is the variety with three leds and the button on the back, so I don't know about the two led predecessor.
